Hi All,
just thought I would start a post on my trials and tribulations with my 110. I bought it back in March with only 64k on the clock, full history but was a bit rough around the edges as had been a hire vehicle for SHB for vast majority of it's life but the chassis was in great nick and all the mechanicals seemed good apart from diff lock not engaging due to seized linkage. Image below of how it looked when purchased. Click image to enlarge Since then I have spent quite a bit of time and money on it trying to get all the little things sorted. So far list of improvements\repairs: Skytag tracker X Eng gear/diff lever lock New battery Rock/Tree sliders New General Grabber AT2's Replaced front bumper and bull bar Power washed chassis cavity and treated with dinitrol (underside already waxoyled) Replaced Fuel cap Started Spraying ACF-50 everywhere Nakatanenga Stainless bolt kit fitted Smaller steering wheel Replaced reverse light switch Cleaned and adjusted diff lock linkage - diff lock now working Tow electrics fitted Replaced sliding window felt runners Extended breathers Replaced all oils, fluids and filters Replaced sump due to stripped threads in existing one Replaced headlights for WIPAC Crystals with Nightbreaker bulbs and Boomslang loom Installed Stebel Nautilus horn Steering guard and diff guards fitted Td5, LR and defender badges that were missing added Jobs still to be done: Fit mudflap brackets and mudflaps Replace brake fluid Bit of bodywork touching up Replace swivel hub seals Sort out leaking roof gutter seal(tigerseal already bought!) Whatever else I can find that needs doing! Like everybody else I presume, I have had good days and bad days with it, very bad days in fact. Jobs taking much longer than they should due to seized bolts etc. Finding that the sump bolt had been stripped and filled full of plumbing paste was a real downer, quite a few expletives were uttered that day.... Also, the amount of crap that I washed out of the chassis was staggering and I am continuing to find lumps of rock hard clay/mud in and around the underside so has obviously been in some seriously muddy places in its past. I am now finally starting to get it somewhere like where I want it to be and will hopefully to be able to start getting out and about and enjoying using it. Stu. |

We had shb hire vehicles as site vehicles and as you have discovered they were driven in deep mud all day every day so no surprise you are finding clay, 2008 Santorini Black 110 XS USW (Sold)

Few more photos below showing the lengths you have to go to to get a defender level on my driveway to service it and the oil stains I now need to clear up! Tree sliders are removed as I'm in the middle of tidying up the bodywork behind the sills with POR15 and then top coat.

Ticked a few more jobs off the list, finally did the swivel hub seals with the help of a friend, took most of a day to do it and replaced the swivel pins and bearings whilst we were at it. Will have to replace the swivels and stub axles next year as they looked a little worn. Also replaced a track rod end due to a split gaiter.
Have also put the rock/tree sliders back on: Click image to enlarge Tidied up the electrical installation today of the Wipac crystals and Stebel Nautilus horn. Fitted an auxillary fuse box by mounting on strut cover and taking main feed from alternator: Click image to enlarge Have then run individual feeds from it for the horn and lights, you can see the horn relay mounted of the coolant bottle bracket: Click image to enlarge Have then run conduit over the top of the radiator under the cowling for the horn and lights wiring: Click image to enlarge Will hopefully get around to fitting the rear diff guard and mudflaps over the weekend as well as the Scenelite I have just bought for the rear. |

Further progress, fitted some KC daylighters up front, Scenelight at the back and MUD gearlever tray with USB sockets. Have also fitted a blue sea fuse box in the battery box to supply the above additions. Finally got around to fitting my rear diff guard and rest of stainless hinge bolts plus got a MCB roofrack and ladder from a well known auction site. Went playing at the weekend in the Lake District and have now got a leaking front shock to replace, so have ordered some Koni heavy tracks with LR springs.
