Wiper park issue
My wipers have developed a little problem recently, they work and function mostly as they should, except when returning to park position, they stop half way up the screen, now before everyone shouts at me and telling me it's the park switch that needs replacing, the odd thing is that when the wipers and screen are wet enough the wipers park much lower, where they are supposed to stop, does this point to something in the linkage that needs lubrication?
I've done a search and couldn't find anything that has the same symptoms, so thought I'd ask the question to save pulling the dash apart numerous times and replacing things that don't need to be replaced.
Thanks

It's a 10 minute job to replace the switch in a 300. That's the first thing to try

Could it be the motor is on the way out? To me as it did you 'park switch' seemed favourite but not if they work when the screen is wet. I would perhaps remove the wiper arms and perhaps apply a little resistance on the spindles when switched on. If you can stop them I would suspect the motor perhaps? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Assuming that they stop on the downstroke, I would suspect worn wheelboxes and drive rack. When the screen is wet there is much less friction between blade and glass, so the blades will slides further after the motor stops. When dry, the blades stop dead and the slack means they're not as far through the sweep as they should be.

Lift a blade off the glass and see how much movement there is in the drive.

I replaced the whole system a year or two ago with brand new genuine parts and this year I started getting a noise like the wheel boxes were running dry so I opened them up and stuck some grease in and now the noise has gone but my wipers do exactly the same as buckblu's Evil or Very Mad I think it may be the worm drive thing opening up like a loose Spring as a reaction to me putting too much grease in and causing some resistance so my plan is to fit another new worm drive while the dash is open and take a bit of the grease out. Mine is definitely not the park switch and I don't think buckblu's is either from the explanation because as he says when the window is wet they stop at the perfect point. Ray

Mines just the same too!
When I brought it, I was told by the previous owner the dash had been out twice with land rover to cure this problem as it kept returning.
She showed me the invoices for the work, august 2013 it had complete new genuine wiper mechanism etc.

Surely they last longer than this??

I've noticed over the last few months the wiper arms creeping up the window, now they sit about 3 inches higher. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Thanks for all the replies, I've lifted the wipers and when turned on they have the full range of movement, when I folded the wipers back, I can clearly see there is considerably less movement when the wipers are in contact with the windscreen, I also forgot to add in the first post that there is a 'clack' noise when the wipers start the stroke again, presumably the rack taking up the slack? I tried adding a little pressure to the splines when I removed one of the arms and couldn't stop it turning, so I don't think it's the motor. Could it be the wheel boxes then?

I have the "clack" too Rolling with laughter

Only does it when the screen is dry, as soon as there is water on it, the clack stops!

I'm trying to put up with it at the moment.
But suppose at some point i will have to sort it. Rolling Eyes 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"
