A big ramp is needed usually, depends on the size of the car though.

But no, seat removal and some interesting parking skills are required depending on what it is your jump starting.

I've done this and use it a lot a work. So much easier that having to keep removing the seat. One of the best mods I have done.

Anderson shelter = World War 2 (1939-45) bomb shelter used in the UK normally made from corrugated sheet metal and half/fully buried in gardens etc.

Anderson sockets are genderless, inductrial DC connectors

Genderless means no plug or socket. You need two Anderson connectors to make an electrical connector.

BEWARE of generic/look alike Anderson connectors! They can be of much lower quality in the plastic mouldings and the electrical contacts! I would not assume that non Anderson/generic connectors will connect to genuine Anderson connectors

Four different sizes, rated at continuous 50/120/175/350 amps but capable of carrying higher currents for shorter periods of time

The different colours relate to advised DC voltage from 12V to 144v. They are mechanically keyed so that it is not possible to fit a yellow one to a blue one etc.

12volt is normally yellow
24 volt is red
36 volt is grey

Typically in the UK the grey one is used on Landrovers. Warn winches use red ones!

The contacts are normally crimped onto the cable. Either an electrical indent cable or a hexagon hydraulic crimp

They can be soldered on as well. Use damp tissue to stop insulation melting.

hey can be mounted on the front of a Defender battery box

or like this

If fitted to a bumper use an isolation switch and a red rubber cover.

Jump leads/compressors/'cordless' drills/work lights etc can be fitted with an Anderson connector

HTH, apologies for long post

Brendan

PS No such thing as a stupid question. However there can be stupid answers Razz

BEWARE of some cheap leads!

I have seen some offered for sale at about 40 rated at 400 amps. Then you look at the spec. 175 amp 'Anderson' type connector. 25mm2 cable and baby clips.

The ones we have use genuine 175 amp Anderson connectors, 35mm2 hiflex cable rated at continuous 240 amps and 300 amp clips.

Now how can 25mm2 cable safely carry 400 amps!. Then there are the 800 amp jumpleads wich use 16 or 25mm2 cable! Stand back and warm your hands!
