G'Day Tank,
What I've heard about these sorts of tunes/devices is that they simply "piggy back" your existing ECU, and make it do things that it normally wouldn't do?....things like putting too much fuel into the engine, ignoring safety parameters etc. So, all I can say is, think very carefullly before you go down that road. B.A.S. & Alive etc are your friends, and have many VERY happy customers on the Forum.
Pickles.

Google maps say fife to Alive HQ in louth is 340 odd miles

I did Plymouth to Louth which is 320 miles when i took the 110 up to them. so you haven't got to go that much further. IMHO i would and did go to someone who would tune properly.

http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic18458....ter+tuning

Cut and paste from another thread I just posted about BHP tuning......

I would stick with either Pete Bell from Bell Auto Services or Gary from Alive, both are very highly recommended and offer a range of products and remaps to get the very best out of your Defender. From Monster I would imagine all you will be getting would be a generic map for a stock vehicle. If you already have a larger intercooler, egr valve blanked, decat pipe or any other modifications their tune may not be right for you and you certainly will not be getting the best out of your tune.

Pickles certain tuning boxes certainly do as you have stated. The plug and play boxes often contain very little it may just be a resistor that fools the fuel fuel rail into thinking it's under-pressurising and as a result gives you the power gain by simply throwing more fuel at the engine. These plug and play boxes have undoubtedly come a long way perhaps but it is something I personally would never consider when there are proven and safe alternatives. They are cheap for a reason, primarily they have not had the expense of time and money in development. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Tank, Hi

I stay in central Scotland, Pete at BAS sorted my tune...I didn't have to go to York, I can assure you:
1. You can sort it all yourself, Pete will talk you through it and support you as much as you need (I needed a lot and not because its difficult
2. If you can wield a spanner and use a mobile phone its straightforward
3. It depends what you want, I wanted to make my 110 more driveable, smoother and a little more shove.
I got exactly what I wanted...like others my choice would only ever have been BAS or Alive.

If you want to speak, happy to do so by PM

Thanks Tom. I wasn't sure as I remembered he had set himself up as a Monster tuner from the thread above. I wouldn't go for any apart from one of the two main Land Rover providers of remaps!
I started off with a generic map from Autologic, after various vehicle modifications the tune got 'thrown all out of kilter' and I was experiencing serious over-boosting issues at certain ambient temperatures. Quick call to both Pete and Gary, various bits ordered and new map sorted the issues out no mither. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Another VoTe for pete and I have tried a few other tuners.

I know a few lads on here have high mileage motors with Peres tunes.mine is a few years old and no exhaust issues,no blown turbos ,no worries

Good fuel if driven steady.

Just been to mudmaster and back, plenty of Offroad (200). and 800 Miles on road

Worst of 22mpg 27 for rest of trip

Pick up the phone if you have worries
