Hi there!
Near my 50th birthday in October my wife suggest me to going to travel abroad instead the typical party with friends and relatives. I like the idea and we start to thinking in the common places to visit like Italy, UK and USA and suddendly appears the option to going to a more exotic place (at least for us ). One of the first options is South Africa to visit the Kruger National Park. So, here the questions: - Is the Kruger the best option or there other better? - How much time is needed to visit the park without rush? (I have 10 days off) - I seen in booking.com the Grand Kruger Lodge and Spa. It is OK or you can get a better thing for a similar price (US$1,500 per 8 nights)? - How are the shuttle service from Johanesburg to the park (car, plane, cost)? - Should I stay 1-2 days in Johanessburg or better to by-pass it? - Any other thing to do not miss in South Africa? Any other advice will be welcome Thanks for the help! Eduardo MY 2007 110 SW PUMA 2.4: Big Fog of 64' MY 1994 Jayco 1207 Folding camper: "El Tremendo" Click image to enlarge |

What a superb idea Eduardo...
I spent my 50th in South Africa and had a fabulous two weeks there! We based ourselves in Cape Town, which is probably more user friendly for tourists than Joberg, and spent the first week exploring all around, including a brilliant walk up to the top of Table Mountain, with the swing car bringing us back down and a couple of days in the nearby wine region of Stellenbosch... Hic... We hired a car from the airport in Cape Town so we could please ourselves. The second week we had an absolutely fantastic time in Bushman's Kloof, a luxury wilderness resort about 150 clicks North of Cape Town - this was a special treat for my special birthday and was a terrific and memorable stay. We did not do the usual Safari stuff as we have both done them before and wanted to do more on that trip. Whatever you choose to do, a great time is pretty much guaranteed... Rog... The GREEN One... Well
I have the tickets and a reservation in a Lodge near Kruger Park (at Marloth Park) for 8 days to relax and see the animals . I will not be in Cape Town this time ("direct" flight from Santiago to Nelspruit with some hours in Johanesburg). Cheers!
