Yesterday me and my dad did the above, we were very pleased with the outcome. The aerial has a tested SWR reading of 1.2 so it should get perfect signal The rubber pads stop the metal from damaging the paintwork

don't be looking at my wiring then jack, mine looks like crap after seeing yours.
good job by the way, watch out for the tax man, with an XS and seat covers then you add mud rails, you may end up too comfortable to qualify as a defender any more |

^^^^ I agree... snapped mine off (prior to the end of the whip going right over and putting little dints in the opposite side of the roof panel)

One slightly less vulnerable alternative would be to mount it on the back of the roof rather than the side. The cables would need re-routing through the back door, but that may leave less exposed anyway.
Another is to use a quick change fitting and swap for a rubber duck type aerial when using in areas with lots of trees. to be honest I don't see the need for the mud rails,
I just put a spacer under the back of the rails to raise up over the ledge abd fitted longer bolts, can now slide back over ledge. Here's the front Click image to enlarge Uploaded with ImageShack.us And here's the back of the seat Click image to enlarge Uploaded with ImageShack.us |

Hi df1,
Any idea what gauge and length of bolts you required, and the height of the spacer? LANDYWATCH Neighbourhood Watch for Land Rover Owners http://www.landywatch.co.uk/smf2/index.php |

As for the spacers, as far as I remember it was 2 m10 nuts and and 2 flat washers each side (about a euro worth).
Can't for the life of me remember the bolt size but I'll pull one out tomorrow and check. |

Just had a closer look this morning, the bolts are M8 x 40 with a 10mm hex head, I've a feeling these are the original bolts - can't just remember but they look like it.
The washers are the heavy washers that are originally there but the M10 nuts I had to buy !!!! The 2 washers and 2 nuts together add to 27mm, so basically you're raising the back of the seat 27mm and leaving the front the same. I don't know if it makes any difference but my seats are Exmoor trim modular, same running gear as original though. Excellent dvi. Thanks a lot. I too had wondered why you had to fit expensive rails to raise the height of the seats. LANDYWATCH
