A bit different look on winter tires from different part of Europe - from Czech republic. Here the winter a bit colder, so for our Discovery 2 I have 3 sets of tire - BFG AT for summer trips, Cooper Discoverer M+S - pure winter tire for winter use, and some MT tires for mud. Using AT or MT in winter is possible, in snow it is not a problem, MT in deep snow is just fun. But normally we have here temperatures around zero, not too much snow, but ice or hard compacted snow on road, or just wet road with lot of rubbish from trees. This is not good on MT - drive straight is not a problem, but cornering or heavy breaking can be a bit challenge. And AT or MT on ice or hard snow is like on skates - it moves, but only in straight direction, grip can be good, but braking or cornering not.
Some years ago two friends had flipped their 110 on MT on wet icy road. And both now use proper winter tires. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "BlufÃnek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo |

Hello Ben, I bought a set of the MaxxTrac Mach 5 from Devon 4x4. They said they'd be fine on the road (with respect to rubbing), and they were right. However under articulation they did catch (I only experienced it once, from within the vehicle and so don't know how much they actually rubbed). Click image to enlarge Like you I went with that size because they look great Probably completely the wrong reason, but then we'd probably all be driving Ford Focus' if we were ruled by our heads. The offset on the Mach 5 was a bit difficult to determine. They are a 16x8" rim, Devon4x4 had them listed at -10mm which I didn't think could be right. I see they've now changed to +10mm: http://www.devon4x4.com/index.php?page=sho...;Itemid=14. I wouldn't want them any further out - the tread face is bang in line with the arches. My springs had also sagged by around an inch (which I didn't realise until I put a +2" lift kit on). Hope that helps. |

Yeah that looks spot on, (happy to be corrected) I think with mine being the 130 hcpu it has stiffer rear springs and sits a little higher as it looks a bit higher than my old 90, I'm going with some 16x8 modular black steels with an offset of 0 so hopefully it will be ok and not rub, but only time will tell.
I do really like your alloys but I want some seats and maybe a remap so money is a little tight however I think it will look quite mean on the deep dish steels Cheers for your help |

Post pics when you get them. I've got 33.12.15 15 bfg km2's on the rear and km1's on the from of my disco and love the look but a spend most my time on the road so think I will go for the new bfg at in 285 75 on the 130 when I have the spare £'s.
