75mm to 50mm2 Butt Splice Connectors
Hey peeps running some cable for Anderson connectors and accidentally got 70 or 75mm instead of 50mm which is what I needed got a meter of 50mm so was thinking of using Butt connectors to go from 70 to 50mm but can't find any reducers . Do they exist if not would it be safe to crimp 50mm cable in a 75 butt connector??cheers

Rule of thumb dictates you should not reduce/increase cable diameter in a single run, especially in higher current draw situations. Should the situation arose I would consider placing an insert into the 75mm barrel of the crimp to pack it and then crimp as normal. I have historically seen the collared inserts but these are type specific to certain crimps. Best to use uniform cable throughout. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!

Last time I bought reducing splices about that size they were about 15 quid a time, they were special order but only took a day to get to CEF - I think they came from ETRC? but not sure.

For 30 quid it might be cheaper to buy new connectors.

You could easily make up the void with TCW from the 50mm cable but youd need to use your judgement for this

is this for 350a anderson connectors?

i believe they do connectors for 70mm cable in a SB350 housing.

other option is battery terminal connectors on a busbar arrangement.

all, in all id just replace the cable Mr. Green 75mm is hard to route and work with. 50mm is bad enough!

Cheers peeps,
Ordered the cable and it arrived looked larger than 50 but has it written on it so thought maybe extra thich insulation. Cut it and nope it was bigger took it to a local rewinds place and bloke said its a special ally cable which is sometimes marked up in its copper equivalent size, this stuff is more flexible than 50mm copper that I have so thats not an issue.

Would need to double check but prity sure its the 175 connectors which only go up to 50mm.

These connectors will be on wire that is routed on the vehicle so not exposed to frequent flexing thus would it be possible to crimp the 70mm and solder the 50mm end or would that be dicy???

What is TCW???

Tinned Copper Wire

Make up the void and crimp as normal.. but as said use judgement.

The contact area of the connectors will have a much higher resistance than the crimp
