Brings us back to a question that has been asked before......
Elephant's trunk (Safari) or Trilby hat (Mantec)? Click image to enlarge Mantec sits higher on the wing..... Click image to enlarge Whilst the Safari is a more uniform fit on the wing. Not a Mantec but also no noticable difference.
The original inlet to the airbox is extremely small anyways. It's a miracle the engine is still able to suck up the air needed... |

It'll easily sap a few HP but like said above, not enough to notice.
Saying that, I wonder if insurance companies class it as a "performance enhancement"? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1989 Defender 90 Toyota Aygo & Honda FR-V |

No actually according to rolling road figures they knock off a little BHP but it's negligible so you wouldn't notice

Instead of the Mantec plastic jobbie, as it is called, why don't you go with the old or even the new style mushroom head RAIs? The diameter of those seem more consistent as not to maybe restrict the airflow as compared to the newer style which looks narrow?

I have never noticed any difference whatsoever but then I have never thought to compare with and without, in fact if you think of it as a ram air (not sure if it works like that) then it is delivering more air and at a slightly lower temperature to the engine, which has to be good, colder air more oxygen, more oxygen better burn. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..
