All 4 doors have been rebuilt. The rears using all the original bits (they were NTO, so easy to do) glass has been tinted as well. The fronts are 5 years old, so I have replaced all the gutters, and spacers, added the 2011 upgrade of the wrap around bottom weather stripping. They are just like new! So worth stripping them down completely for painting rather than just mask them and spray.

Click image to enlarge Paint is the stock 574 Niagara Grey. Wasn't expecting a perfect match, it's a bit darker than the 15 year old paint, but I'm not concerned... already planning the next step in a year. Remove the roof, side panels, galvanize the capping and paint anything that hasn't been done this round... shouldn't be an issue to match at that point. Next up is bolting in the seat brackets, and upstand. I have Rhinolined the 2 front floor panels, and the second row floor panel. Just need to paint the underside with DP90 Epoxy primer before installing. That, and dinitrol will be good protection for those pieces... OK.. moving along... rear seat brackets are now permanently attached. Top 2 bolts are easy, drill and rivnut, the 2 centre ones on the back of the crossmember, a little tougher to drill and rivet as space is limited. Outer 2, damn near impossible. The right side there was just enough space. Left side... nope. Solution was to drill a hole in the side of the crossmember to allow a spanner and nut to pass through and mate up with the bolt. Also will double as an excellent access point to coat the inside of the crossmember with Dinitrol. Easy to close with a plug once it's all done.

It was a big step last night! AfterI don't know how many test fits, adjustments and dry runs, it was time to affix the underfloor support and upsatnd for good.
A little final adjusting everything. Confirm all the body mount bolts are all back and tight, all the other bolts are checked. Dropped in the rear floor and lined up the front holes, marked the rear holes in the upsatnd, took it to the bench and drilled them out. Upstand goes back in, secured it in place with a couple bolts, carefully mark and measure for the rivets, and start drilling. 3 holes in the floor though the underfloor support, then , 3 holes in the upstand though the underfloor support. Used stainless shank rivets, Duralac on each one, and worked our way across the floor. (have to say, a pneumatic rivet gun, sure makes the job easier) The floor and upstand are 100% dead even all the way across , a gap of maybe 2mm between them, seam sealer will do a nice job of on that, and sealing up the end caps before I rivet those in. Still a lot of work to go, but all the planning and test fitting has paid off, assembly is going smoothly.

WOW... so much going on to meet the imposing deadline...
Had an issue with one of the door skins, all fixed though... http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic44604.html decided to upgrade the headlights... Removed the headlight levelling... (not required here) installed the non levelling Wipac bezels.. simple swap and all new non-rusty hardware for the adjustment makes life much easier for only a few dollars. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Wasn't able to find the Nightbreaker bulbs I wanted (jut not enough time in the day right now!) so I went for the PIAA 4000 Extreme... it's an upgrade for sure. Fender drops for the seat are finally finished and installed, top side was coated with grey primer, and the underside I used 2 part epoxy primer. Gave them a coat of LR rattle can grey (match to my Niagara Grey) All installed with stainless shank rivets, Looks so nice, I almost don't want to carpet it all over.... I'm going to use the old carpet for now, then once I'm back from my trip I'll use the old carpet as a template for a nice set of black carpet. Make it fit to the new bodywork and have it all properly edge trimmed. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Very happy with the Rhinolined floor panels. Everything is all sealed up, went over all the floors with a light from the underside found some small gaps including some that were probably there originally by the look of some of the hardware. All the screws and washers on the transmission tunnel were rusted, and are now replaced with stainless. All the floors are fastened with stainless as well (lots of Duralac on there too) The Rhinolining also provides a thick barrier between fasteners and aluminium. Then last night at 1:00am the seats were all bolted in FOR THE LAST ITME... I think I have test fitted then at least 12 times...
