Spare Wheel Cover on 265s
Hi all,

Looking to upgrade all 5 tyres from the 235s to 265 BFGs but wanted know if my standard vinyl Land Rover spare wheel cover is designed to fit over the wider tyre. Any help would be much appreciated!

Cheers

Stephan

Yep, mine fits over the Goodyear 265 no problem. Only care point is not all 265's are the same size! But you should be OK.

How much "overhang" does your existing wheel cover have over the back of the 235/85 tyre?

265 tyres are wider but no bigger diameter  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Yes I know, I meant that not all manufacturers make their 265/75R16's the same size so there are slight differences between brands. Either way, I think there is enough slack in the cover to fit the worst case size.
Here is mine with the cover over a Goodyear 265/75R16: http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic39625-15.html

Only thing I had to do was wind out the spacers on the mounting studs to provide clearance for the rear window wiper.

As already stated, not all 265/75x16 (or other sizes for that matter) are the same size so what might fit one tyre may not fit another.

When I replaced my 265/75x16 BFG AT's for 265/75x16 ST Maxx I found that the new tyres were 1-inch taller and 1-inch wider than the old ones and the old semi-rigid cover didn't fit. Funnily enough, I had the same problem when I first fitted the BFG AT's, the cover that fitted my old (same size) tyres wouldn't fit the BFG's!

For the ST Maxx (31.5 in tall & 10.5 in wide) I eventually went for a soft cover off Ebay, cheap & cheerful but it does the job. I really wanted another semi-rigid but when I spoke to the manufacturers, both said that they didn't have anything that would fit the larger tyres. ONE LIFE, GET IT!

Here is a pic showing the current overhang on the standard 235 contis. Reckon it will be too tight with the additional width. Will most likely leave spare unchanged and just upgrade the 4 main tyres. Thanks again for all the feedback!
P.S. hope the photo comes through, first time I have posted a pic Shocked
