( original thread at http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic33958.html )
Hello All I have had some success today, with one aspect for the Tribute. We now have permission for vehicle access onto the Beach at Red Wharf Bay. I have been progressing the idea with the Marine Officer for Anglesey, (who has been excellent), understands and supports what we are trying to do, and has granted us the necessary permissions (paperwork being issued next week). The beach access last year for JLR (Land Rover sand drawing) and Top Gear (concept centre steering Land Rover) was obtained by the same route. In short on the 16th August we (<200 vehicles) are allowed onto the beach, (at an agreed approach and access point), drive along the Forshaw (details in principle agreed), then (suggested) we will all line up to conduct a photo shoot (press / video etc). On Sunday 16th August Low water time is 6.45am High water time is 1.00pm Beach exit time 11.30am (The tide when turned comes in at roughly walking pace). We now have something to focus on for the start of the event. My plan now is to try and get an equivalent for the end. More to post but wanted to update what we now have... Hello All
I have recently been approached (via PMs) by two members of this forum with direct offers to help (again thanks) I’ll progress with them individually, but if anyone else out there has any good ideas, with the ability to give some time to try and follow through, please let me know, (PM me). I am particularly interested in hearing from anyone with knowledge (experience) in the following areas: Media / Filming / Photography... Emergency Services... Armed Services... Police... First Responders / First Aid / Recovery... Employees of JLR... Members of any of the Series Clubs... Currently we have around >50 owners interested, 64 on here and 57 on DefenderTribute.com (some / most will be on both lists). When it comes to the day this could easily half or double... I am working on a method to gauge ‘strong participation’ numbers... Event Outline Schedule: Saturday 15th August Land Rover Owners get to within travelling distance of Red Wharf Bay There are local venues around Red Wharf Bay that could act as a ‘night before’ meeting place... Sunday 16th August 8.00am - 9.00am Red Wharf Bay Land Rover beach meeting 10.00am - 11.00am Photography / Press 11.00am - 11.30am Beach exit time 11.30am 12.00am Commence Drive* to Solihull *Nature of drive / Routes taken / Group size...currently in planning More to follow...spread the word SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Thanks Martin!
Yes, I'm one of the volunteers assisting Skip with this. Currently, I'm looking at route planning and hope to get in touch with Council and Police authorities on the proposed route(s) so if anyone has a contact at North Wales Police or the Councils between Anglesey and Solihull please PM me! |

I've clicked above to say I'm coming. Does that count as registration or is there something else I should do?

Hello MaxRPM
Thanks... for now that's all you really have to do. But it would help if you could also register at DefenderTribute.com which zone30 has set up (this gives him a list of who's who and he can help administer as required in the run up to the event, it also captures non D2N participants). The list at the top of this tread is designed to show who's going with the ability to confirm (and withdraw), previously the poll was in effect an 'expression of interest' only...so this listing is best measure of who's in. Martin has also set this up to allow all those registered to receive PMs (which may get used if details are best conveyed by not being on a public forum) The plan is that this tread will give all the 'need to know' information for anyone joining in, and will be posted when we have certainty of the arrangements. (also posted on DefenderTribute.com) www.DefenderTribute.com So follow this thread and turn up at Red Wharf Bay... SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

OK, SWMBO has declared we will be joining in, mid holiday, so we'll find somewhere nearby to stay, any local hotel type recommendations will be very welcome, we'll also bring our springer spaniel Buster who loves his defender

Hello All
Update: Red Wharf Bay I have now received the authorisation from Anglesey Council for access to Red Wharf Bay on the 16th August. (I will post the details of where, when, and how later). Land Rover Solihull A request to provide a suitable 'destination point' as a conclusion to our event, has been made to Land Rover. (This has been acknowledge and is currently being considered). Working Defenders There is an initiative (currently on-going) to invite representative examples of 'Working Defenders' to join the event at Red Wharf Bay. Beyond privately owned Defenders, it would be great to see examples of those used in various roles, in-the-field. UK Land Rover Clubs These are being re-contacted, both to be updated, and to try and confirm participation. Click image to enlarge SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |
