Not directly related to this thread as this is more about the hinges I believe but...
The owner before me (or maybe one before him) must have had the age old problem of having the rear door swing open with a spare wheel and smack the rear panel by the Land Rover badge, denting the panel and cracking the paint. I can see what looks like primer under the paint (looks almost like the same green primer used on aircraft - only reason I guess primer) but there is no corrosion (at least not there...). My question is how should I go about fixing the dent and paint and how easy is it for a fairly rookie mechanic? I do use the vehicle for some green laning so it's not shy of a few scratches but just wondered if it was worth doing anything about? Can just about see the damage in the pic below... Hello sgilmour
I saw your problem fixed last year at my local Land Rover Independent. 1. Take off internal bodywork trim / panel covering 'dent'. 2. Remove all lights, speaker etc, anything getting in the way. 3. Place a suitable sized piece of ply over 'pushed in' bodywork. 4. Sit in rear, on the seats in your case the example I saw was a hard top. 5. With feet push the ply slowly out. This all sounds a bit amateurish... but it worked really well on that dent, it was not creased and probably not gone in too far. The Land Rover indi' did this as part of fitting a swing away Spare Wheel Carrier. This all but fixed the dent / impression, no painting was needed, but yours may need to go the extra step if you have cracked paint. The primer with a 'greenish' colour is almost certainly (as it should be) etching primer for aluminium alloy. Good Luck SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |

Somewhat related...
How heavy are the different wheel offerings please? My normal 'steelies' are circa 11kg HD steels? Boost? Sawtooth? YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

@X4SKP Thanks for your answer, I will give that a go. Will be much easier to strip back and repaint that corner once it's been pushed out too. Thanks again!
