First impressions are very good, seems better built than my 57 plate was, drives better too. One thing I really like is that there is now just 1 key for doors, ignition and petrol cap, I hated the piddly little key supplied with the 07 MY.

Very happy, just need to ditch the skinny tyres and fit a snorkel and winch and it will be sorted
Oh and I was a bit presumptuious regarding the key situation. Turns out the dealer forgot to hand over the little keys for the petrol filler cap, good job it was left unlocked as they have misplaced them Andy |

CFB,
What size BFG tyres (and rims) did you get in the end? Are you still happy with them? Any limitations/problems? Cheers, Rick. 1998 RR HSE 2007 RRS TDV6 2008 Defender 110 2015 Discovery Sport |

That's interesting - and no spacers or tweaking the suspension? My 110 is a week or so away from being delivered and so I wouldn't mind swapping the TR's over to a wider (and All Terrain) tyre - but the tyre shop attached to the LR dealer keeps telling me (in that way that makes you feel a little stupid for even mentioning it) that a wider tyre than a 235/85/16 would require larger rims and performance would be markedly worse than road-biased skinnys (the TRs). The thing is he knows more about tyres than I feel like I'm not getting the whole story (for some reason). Cheers, Rick 1998 RR HSE 2007 RRS TDV6 2008 Defender 110 2015 Discovery Sport |

Hi Rick
No mods,, total standard suspension, standard boost alloys, no spacers etc,, Has not been used to max extreme, but did 3000 miles round Portugal / Spain etc, inc near 1000 offroad, and did not hear or have seen signs tyre rub etc,, Click image to enlarge Saying that, i use to get some rub, on the rear wheel box's when these same size/make of tyre were fitted to previous TD5's !! on articulation !! Maybe the way the 07 rear box's are shaped different, give some more clearance California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1 Main Brian James Trailer Dealer for South West UK |

Just one last question - how have you found the BFG MTs on roads, especially at highway speeds? 1998 RR HSE 2007 RRS TDV6 2008 Defender 110 2015 Discovery Sport |

According to the BFG website that I looked at when I bought my tyres the widest tyre that can fit a 7" rim width is a 265. Hence I run 265/75 16 Mud Terrains on my Boost alloys with standard suspension on a 2004MY Defender Xtreme. They clear everything at the rear but rub very slighly on the inner front wing when under full articulation. They have the same rolling diameter as the 235/85 that were standard but look much better. Land Rovers are an addiction. Toyotas are for quitters.

Did 2000 miles round Spain/Portugal etc, You have to remember that they are Mud Terrain tyres, so make allowances, ie wet road braking, grip in the corners,, but do not find they are much worse than the standard fit Grabbers,, A tad more road noise, but quieter that the Goodyear M/T's i have on the Sport !! I went for 225/85 to gain a bit more under body clearance Standard size 235/85 gives 31.7" 265/75 x 16 are 31.6" whereas the 255/85 works out at 33.1" Depending on what you are doing, most of the time All Terrains would do the job well, and be a tad more economical fuel wise !! I use Mud's, as i have a set of the same size on the Hybrid, so got a deal on 10 of them, and would no be the end of the world, if i side walled one !! Maybe Martin should move these posts to a new thread for Defender tyres !! No worries
I am planning to fit 265/75/16 BFG All-Terrains when funds permit. The standard fit Grabbers are actually not too bad, seem to give good mpg and a soft ride. Seem OK off-road too, they have good deep block treads but not tried them in much serrious mud yet. Andy |
