Could you repeat that, slowly and in English please. Specifically the first line.
Does it always have problems with warm starts or just sometimes? Will it ever start when warm? Have you got access to any sort of diagnostics? If it cranks but doesn't fire, what do you do to get it going? I've had our TD5 not start when it should, but that's always been immobiliser issues. A quick lock and unlock gets it going again. |

 .
will start hot after purge and long crank time. the fact it starts by bumping it with very little effort (rolling down hill letting out the clutch in second gear)hope this makes more sense 
to add yes it does this all the time and no I don't have any diagnostics for ecu but thought if someone knows what pins I could test at the ecu for voltage to command the injectors to work when cranking |

I have exactly the same problem
Let it cool and it starts. I'm going to fit a new starter motor soon as I've been told these can cause spikes which confuse the crank sensor and stop the injectors firing (which mine sounds like). Mine too will also bump start but won't go off the starter. Will get back to you asap once it is done. It may or may not be related, but the fuel pump sounded funny today, like air in the pump and then a cat meowing. Cheers gazman just popped out to see if the thing would start as it was cold overnight dipped the oil first and still spot on
 did 200 miles over the weekend pleased no increase in levels. fired up like a goodin mine did have a little squeak at the start of this problem soon as ignition turned on thats why I've chased the air in fuel train of thought even when I could not see any bubbles in temp clear fuel line.starting from injector seals and working my way back must admit seals looked ok no real signs of leak past but they were looking as if corrosion was getting the better of them fpr wasn't leaking pressure at 4br filter head ports corroded around thread edges and bleed valve black with I think soot so replaced cos even if it wasn't the problem now it could course bother later on.fuel pump swapped no better so original pump refitted ecu red plug dry battery voltage no large drop when cranking .After all this effort on the fuel side of things got to start looking at other options like the starter |

gazman fitted new starter and solved my problem .to sum up the only way I could make a decision was to use the logic that if the engine would start with a bump start(only a few meters down hill and let the clutch out in 2nd and the engine fired up after only a single turn or less of the engine)but would not start of the starter motor then the starter must be at fault .this is only my opinion but it did work for me .

I know its pretty unrelated, but I had the exact same problem with a 2.0 Ltr Mondeo tdi 2006.
it would start straight away in the morning, but then if you stopped 10 minutes later, turned it off, it would have to turn over loads before it would fire.. I took it to Ford and it had a software update, After that it started well every time.. Just thought I'd mention it.. Good Luck! My 1986 90 is currently on a full rebuild, with new chassis, Paint etc.. Very much a hybrid, TD5 Chassis, tub & bulkhead with a 200TDI and LT77 GB Painted in Stornoway Grey  2 years off the road, but getting close to completion now |

Thanks guys. I have a new starter sat in the passenger side footwell of the landy waiting to go on early next week when I get a day off.

Yup. Mine was the starter too.
As soon as I fitted it and tried to start it even cold it spun up soo much quicker. No issues hot either so far, so fingers crossed. 2014 - current ..... 2003 defender td5 90 (my car) 2009 - current .... 2005 zx10r |
