I've a mate in 'the job' as you know...he told me to get a tug for your wheels a copper would have to be really anally retentative....looks like you found him....he also informed me if you got a pull for something else the issue of wheels would probably be mentioned then though. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

so whats the problem with tyres sticking out a little anyway?
is it for safety reasons ie if you almost run someone down but just catch them on the tyres? if so they should count themselves lucky it was only the tyres and not the full rath of the winch (or just the bumper). |

No it's not. This isn't America old chap. Your black and silver plates wouldn't have been read by number plate reading cameras, so if your FFRR was stolen the Police would've had considerably less chance of catching the crims and getting it back to you. You'd have been the first to lambast the Police for not doing anything about your stolen RR when it was your modification which lowered the chances of recovery. So Fekete, you had a Landie with a modification you almost certainly knew was illegal, you were stopped as a result and the Officer has offered you some advise as opposed to giving you a ticket or reporting you. Apart from the fact that you didn't like how he looked, it seems he's been pretty decent in dealing with the matter. Perhaps you should complain to your local Force that you didn't like the look of the Officer. Pom - having to get a real job? Please try and come up with something even remotely original. It's a shame there is such a 'bad boy' cavalier attitude amongst some on this forum - it really spoils the atmosphere. Si,
Are you a policeman perchance??? No need to answer 'persec' 'n' all that! I thought Pom had a good point! I'm in the Services and there are many an individual who are quaking in their boots at the prospect of having to get another job, be it a 'real' one or otherwise! Could it also be possible that you are misconstruing good banter for a 'bad boy' cavalier attitude??? From a personal perspective you made several good points in your post but ruined what was a good post with your last two sentences! Just an observation not wanting anyone to 'go off on one!' SiWHITE...Are they illegal as ive looked on the police uk forum and you lot don't seem to know the real legality of tyres sticking out ??? even the chief doesn't really know whats right and wrong ???? the Copper was ok for a Copper
but is there really any need to pull people just because their tyres stick out a bit ? we have a big problem with crack dealers round here running round in stolen cars and cars that are unsafe and they leave them alone for months until they have enough intelligence to hit them big come on NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. Fair point K9F - it can be hard to convey true meaning through a forum. Maybe I missed Fekete's intended tone. I do, indeed, work in 'the industry'.
Fekete - yes it is illegal if the tyre tread can be seen from above and yes you were 'unlucky' to be stopped, but no particular harm done I don't think? It's a shame when the Police are torn apart in this sort of environment for doing their job. Your point about the crack dealers is valid, but a huge number of criminals are arrested as a result of minor vehicle defects. Last week I stopped a van as if had a rear numberplate with an italic font, and meant only to give the driver some friendly advise. It turns out he was twice the drink drive limit, had a counterfeit tax disc, no MOT, no insurance and had a Warrant for his arrest. Not a crack dealer admittedly, but it goes to show how minor offences can catch bad guys. My blog - www.anacreinhampshire.blogspot.co.uk 110 TD5 BuildHERE - sold! 110 Tdci Build HERE - sold! Still stick by my post thou
This Chap admitted he tugged me because he hated Land Rovers ( I did point out it was a Range Rover not a land Rover ) this Chap also took offence when he noticed the Black and Silver plates and said it there anything in this car that is over 20 years old I replied yes the driver (his old colleague laughed and we spent more time talking about the contents of the boot) he rolled his eyes when young chap insisted on writing a ticket etc etc then we closed off to old Chap See you on Sunday at the shoot Oh if some was stupid enough to Steal her I 'd not want it recovered simple as that |

Si, i've spoken to you before on other forums and i knew i could have got a tug...My first post was in jest about the look of the Copper.....I was not being nasty just my sense of humours a bit twisted i know... but he was ugly anyway back to the point, he was going on about the back of the wheels not being covered by the mud flap, i did explain its to do with looking down and not being able to see any tyre but he was having none of it more interested in what other bits i had on the lanny ? in all fairness he was fair and has gave me enough time to sort it out but still a little cocky...O well i'll take it on the chin... see what happens when he pulls me again cos he will as he told me he has looked at the truck before at my home ? I'm totally legal don't drink drive....don't drug drive..... have insurance... got tax... full m.o.t... and have no outstanding warrants.. and use white deisel..... NEVER TAKE LIFE SERIOUSLY. NOBODY GETS OUT ALIVE ANYWAY

TBH it's not really a traffic cops job to chase drug dealers unless they've run a read light or run some over. The was doing his job, be happy there are still a few coppers out there that don't shoot first ask questions later (so to speak).
However I was watching some UK cop show on the BBC and the traffic cop said he had a hate for all land rovers and pull them over because he doesn't like them. Now that's just one copper not all of them. No I'm not a xopper |
