Mobile Storage Systems
Just making a general enquiry into their quality.

I know they did have a fantastic reputation but was just wondering if that was still the case? Especially as they were taken over by Trek Overland several years ago...

Any opinions against other vendors such as Frontrunner and such like which are also eye watering?

I've had a few MSS bits of kit in my time, I've yet to see anything better, I had a longline drawer for my 110, though at a grand... painful.

As I need 2 of them, I've looked at FCX boxes, though not seen one in person.
I have a GMB under cubby box, which is nice quality too.

Had my Store Drawer back when my new work truck was a Y reg 90. Then I put it into its replacement an '05 90. Now I have it in my own 110. It has carried ratchet straps, rope tools etc. Just gve the bare chequer plate a coat of black powder coat before putting in 110, otherwise, done nothing else with it. An investment that was worth it.

I have a Store Draw and Chest in the 90 and a Store Draw in the 110, they are very good quality and I would not hesitate to buy another. Whilst they are expensive, they will stand the test of time and you will get your money back via eBay etc should you decide to sell.

Their cubby is good and a lot more comfy on the elbow than the Exmoor Loc Box but the cupholders and latch mechanism let it down.

Thanks for the answers guys. It appears as though there quality hasn't been affected by the takeover.

Regarding a cubby I have always intended to use a twin-din from FCX as I prefer the look of Matt's over the Mobile Systems or Raptor offerings Thumbs Up

Quality wise they are nothing special. If anything I'd liken them to the construction of a cheap tool chest. I think their premium pricing is because they have a virtual monopoly on the market and it's a very limited market.

The Southdown locking plate is an example - close the drawer and watch how the top catch pushes the whole plate away from the surround before closing. Not good.

I fitted a small bolt to stop it flexing.

I have a longline drawer in the back of my double cab, on full extension there's a huge amount of lateral movement. It's not what I would call synonymous with quality.

It doesn't come with any form of internal dividers, which for the money you'd think it could do. So I had to make my own.

It does a job but I think we are all paying through the nose for it.

Thanks for that Supacat. You are correct. For the kind of money they charge for the longline drawer, there should be no lateral movement at all..

On a tangent years ago I was shown round a morgue and had a look at some of the empty drawers they keep the stiffs (sorry) on. They slide in and out about 7 feet and there is no lateral movement at all! Quality.. Laughing

Maybe I will stick to the MSS chests rather than the drawers..

Out of curiosity - can you legally leave the gun locked in the vehicle like that?
