2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 USW Orkney Grey

Defender Puma blowing brake light fuse!!!!

Hi, my 2011 puma keeps blowing the fuse to the brake lights and clutch switch, I have unplugged the brake switch and put a new fuse in and the clutch switch works as it should so I think I have narrowed it down to the brake lights. Lamps are fine so seems to be in the loom any suggestions would be much appreciated. Sorry new to the forum!!!!

Welcome aboard Bill.
On our side of the world we have lot of issues with brake/tail light wiring in trailer plugs.
Often is broken wires inside the plug shorting out.

Try unplugging all 3 brake lights and see if it still does it.
It will isolate if it is loom or not this way. Cheers,

Unplug the towing socket under the drivers side rear wheel arch and see if it still happens. The back of the socket can get full of water and rot away and the front can get full of mud if you go off road. Ray

Thank you both very much for you help!!! Where I had fitted the socket in the hole in the crossmember the wire had chaffed on the rectangular hole. So have now taped it up and wrapped it in an old bike inner tube like a grommet and spaced it away from the chassis a little bit. I now have the novel experience of people knowing when I'm going to stop!!!! Thanks guys!!!!

Good pick up, it can be frustrating chasing chaffed wiring.
Nothing worse than studying the mirror when you slow up knowing the car behind may not be paying attention and relying on a red glow. Cheers,
