New winch motor choice....Superwinch Husky 8
I have recently bought a Husky 8 for our 110, it is in pretty good condition with the exception of a rotten motor. I have contacted Good winch as I noticed they sell the ISKRA long casing motor (Husky original) for the same £159+VAT that the Bowmotor 1 is which they advised me would be a better option for me and fit in without issues.

The stated specs for the motors (12v) are as below:
ISKRA 2800rpm, 4.2hp, 47A no load
Bowmotor 1 4000rpm, 5.6hp 44A no load

The faster and more powerful Bowmotor 1 seems the more appealing option but I have read a lot of mixed reviews about the Bowmotor 1 being more power hungry and stalling easily. I don't have any reason to dismiss Goodwinch's advice as I know they are very knowledgeable and have been very helpful.

Does anyone here have any advice.

I have three Husky winches mounted on various vehicles and in my opinion you cannot buy a better quality electric winch. Unless you are into competitive winching when they are too slow, they can't be bettered.

I would therefore fit an original motor of the type the winch was designed to use, not anything different.

The Husky winch is very good,,,so slow, but good, great winch for the rear and lowering out, due to the worm drive

I have one here somewhere, and that has a B1 motor fitted, just keeps pulling, or did the last time i had it fitted

Must get round to collecting a load of stuff up and have a clear out Surprised California F1, 75th 110 "Kermit", 50th Ann V8, 90 V8 Hybrid, 55 Series 1

Ok, so that's really helped you then! Rolling with laughter

It probably means it doesn't really matter.

All I'd say is that my experience of, and the reputation of, David at Goodwinch means I'd follow his suggestion.

On the stalling question - I've read of a few people using bowmotors in challenge vehicles and saying they are fine ... ?

I think either would be fine - but I'd trust their advice and welcome the extra speed.

i run a Bow 1 on my husky, its been on there years (7ish?) works well no problems with it. you wont stall it out on a Husky unless you doing something really stupid and the ISKA would of stalled long before then anyway.

If i was changing mine i would fit another Bow1. Cheers

Slightly OT but i have had real trouble keeping water out of the original motor. No wading just rain etc living outside. This time the motor is shot (rusted internals) so I need to replace it. Is this a weakness or maybe a faulty seal (looked ok). I am also looking at the Bowmotor but would not like to see it rust away!

Never had that problem with any of mine (they're all over 12 years old now) - at least, not yet!
