With the rear seat make sure that the fabric handle for raising the base is fully in the return position. I usually have to push mine down to get the seat back to lock in place.
I would get the oil leak looked at by a dealer as you are still under warranty. First time they will wipe and advise to monitor. If it leaks again they should fix it. It could be something simple like a blocked breather. I have never noticed the DPF regen on either my defender or passat! |

Thanks for this scot - maybe it's the golf that's unusual then, it whirs away like crazy every couple of weeks, even after engine has been shut off sometimes.
Good advice re seat back and leak - I will check Thanks Will |

Ive had my defender for about 12 months now and only realised the dpf regen has happened a couple times... if youre blasting up the motorway every once in a while the dpf probably doesnt need to regen due to it cleaning itself so to speak.

Hi there, driving off road @ low rpm can cause the orange DPF light to come up
Very few minutes on 2000++ rpm will help You are going to hear & see nothing except very few black dust at the exhaust. Given that you had your exhaust cleaned before |

I've owned my 110 for 2 years now and have never felt it doing an active DPF regeneration, even though it seems to average one per tankful. The only indication is the footwell getting hot, the exhaust being roasting hot and pinging after stopping or the fuel gauge suddenly dropping!
I think the amber warning light is a great idea, so you can keep driving if it really needs to regenerate and give it a few more revs. Mine has never illuminated. |

I have an ultra gauge fitted so I can monitor many sensors from the ecu, 2 of which are exhaust temp sensors, pre dpf and post dpf, I keep an eye on these and know if a regen is happening due to the temp rising up to 600+ degrees!
Also my exhaust note is much deeper, like my exhaust is blowing when a regen is taking place. |

I've found the most noticeable way of telling is the injector noise. As they're post injecting on the exhaust stroke you can hear them firing in to near atmospheric pressure so they make a noise like a plastic ruler being twanged. If you've got the window open you can hear the difference in the intake noise aswell - it'll stop messing about with the EGR valve and close it for the duration of the forced regen so the induction noise will be more constant.

Defenders passively regenerate their DPFs anyway, so active regen does not trigger as often as a "normal" car.
There is a higher EGT temperature anyway, something to do with the vehicle shape and driveline efficiency 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top 2015 D90 XS SW |
