Hi All!
I know that this issue wont affect a lot of you, however, some of you will know that the Dartford Crossing has been 'upgraded' in the last year to do away with the toll booths. this is apparently to cure the traffic issues and the queues that most days went back to Jct3 Swanley. Now they have all but finished the new works, the queues are even worse! regularly (almost daily) back to Jct4 Orpington (5 miles?). The southbound over the bridge has improved but the northbound through the tunnels is terrible and obviously has effects on traffic in the surrounding areas as well. There is a Parliamentary Petition to get the 'Farce' investigated and I wonder if anyone in Def2 will sign? Here's the link if you are interested. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/105868 Cheers Mark |

Thought the Tunnel bit was about traffic and pollution control i.e. keeping it flowing
mmmm doesn't work though |

We live in Horton Kirby, which is not far from the M25/M20 interchange at Swanley - and, we've noticed a huge increase in traffic through our village and the adjacent villages, of vehicles coming off the M25 at Swanley, and cutting through the villages, to get to the A2. Well done chaps!
Apparently if there are 10,000 signatures then the government HAS to open an investigation. [/i] |

I've been southbound over the bridge about half a dozen times in the past few weeks and every time I have sailed through without a problem.
However, as I have travelled towards the A21 junction looking across the carriageway the queue heading northbound has been horrendous, far worse than before the booths came down. The only reason I can think that this might be is that the approach is still a bit of a mess visually and people are not sure what lane to go in. (I've found that staying in the outside lanes and going through the right hand tunnel is quicker). According to the Highways website all the work apart from landscaping which should not affect traffic flow has been completed now so hopefully things will rapidly improve..... Petition signed though. |

I have already signed it following a twitter campaign from "@dartfordbridge1" as living near Bluewater going North is a mess. I guess it's because of the traffic joining so close from Bob Dunn Way in Dartford that is the problem as they try to feed into to the free flow stream.
Going South is a breeze as the junction before the bridge further away and easier to join the traffic. Cheers Don. |

What I don't understand is that the left hand tunnel flow keeps being stopped by traffic lights, I know that they stop the traffic to let the tankers through as a batch but it seems to happen even when there is nothing in the holding lane.

I'm not really sure what kind of training and qualifications you have to have for traffic management but the approach north bound is atrocious. There is no intuitive route to follow. I'm hoping it's simplified when the works are finished. Another question is why is it more expensive than before, particularly when funding for the second bore and the bridge when it had paid for itself the toll was going to be removed. Definitely signed.
I've just googled traffic management qualifications and all it said was " All applicants must provide there own Etch A Sketch" and crayons. I started with nothing and still have most of it left! |

Sad to hear all your problems and I hope it gets sorted soon, however, as a moderate to infrequent user (6 times this year) I have been really pleased, the new system registers each of my vehicles correctly and the traffic management system North has kept the vehicle numbers actually in the tunnel at the correct volume and hence free flowing, the downside is you queue before you get to the tunnel rather than in it, oh, and of course, you have a all the company car drivers turning lane management into a free for all, however, that's the same at any traffic management situation. Disappointed the petition doesn't offer any solutions, just a moan, I would have thought regular users would be in the best position to suggest changes for the better
