td5 transfer box wiring
Guys today I found a plug hanging next to my transfer box on my 03 defender.
I followed it back and it goes in the top side of the case like the diff lock indicator switch does.

I'm guessing it is for the high and low range. I found two further wires coming out of the loom with the diff light wiring, but someone has fitted spade connectors and tapped them with insulation tape. Do I just need to connect the two spade connections and what does the switch do as I can't see a warning light on the dash (which is my 1st guess), and why would someone do this?

it tell the engine ecu that you are in low range! so that the ecu can apply the correct throttle response map

As Kevinf says, the switch tells the ECU if you're in high or low range so it can apply the appropriate map.

I can't remember which way the circuit is, but if it's been permananently connected together (made) then I would guess that's signalling high box.

The map for lower box only gives something like 80% of total power of the high box, and also it's not linear with pedal travel, so the first bit of travel gives even less than power than you might expect. It's all to do with not revving the **** off it in low box.

I modified the circuit on mine to enable me to switch it back to 'high' when in low box, to give me the high map for trials and challenges. There's also another modification you can do on the clutch switch that does not immediately cut the power when the clutch is even slightly pressed. Again another useful mod for trials and challenges. I generally put switches in my mods so I can turn them off and have it behave as designed.
