I tried it too but didn't notice any difference. I use 2 stroke but I think long journeys should keep everything clear. None of mine are fitted with a DPF. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Had the calculator out today comparing fuel economies of my 110 and M3

Based on a trip to Tuscany in the 110 in the summer and a recent trip to Belgium in the M3 .... Guess which one gives most mpg?

M3 driven at 130(ish) kms and defender at 100kms using cruise control .... The M3 wins but not by much

/\ If that doesn't prove that the economy isnt any good nothing does!
I honestly still cant fully understand the economy threads as you know its going to bad so just accept it, that said if you like this sort of thing good on you its useful for us all to know if we are running low. The answer is to stop and let Caterham drive it home Wink

Be boring if we were all the same Thumbs Up Defender puma dormobile camper

Very Happy

going back many years I seem to recall my M3 being surprisingly economical so I guess /\ proves the defender IS in deed economical.

....could just be the weather but this tank with bp ultimate in it I was hoping to get a record breaker but at just 300 miles at the half way mark and how its looking right now I doubt I'm to do much more than c520miles.

any attempt to break 611miles might now have to wait till next spring?

- did I just hear Mal and Steve sigh with relief of some rest bite till then?

Surely colder weather means denser air and fuel?

Colder should = more efficient engine Thumbs Up

i think knowing econmoy is important so that any changes in it can be picked up on. if you drive something all the time you dont notice small changes with time, but economy records can be cross referenced going back, rather than i think its using more fuel for a given trip etc.

having said that what ever the figure is, thats what it is. i didnt buy a defender because i wanted the most economical vehicle. Cheers

Mal - look the other way.

orange light and bong on at 517miles today so better than expected but less than I'd hoped for.

it would appear just a few extra miles an hour on the motorway makes for a notable difference. I reckon Wednesday I was going too quick at c55mph compared to today at closer to 50 -52mph which seems to give excellent economy Thumbs Up

18000 mile average for my 2.4 90 is 320 miles full to light on never worked out what mpg that is. Yup it's *hite but who cares! That's with an average 55 mph motorway speed and fairly easy driving style. Once with a very heavy trailer it did half a tank in 100 miles, so Defender economy is useless !

I'm hoping to get that mileage sooner or later, but not by puddling at those speeds. That would be really bad for my health. I rather spend some money on a long range fuel tank to keep the gastric acid under control. My own health is worth something to me... Whistle
