For me, I'm not a fan unless you go the whole X-Tech look, and even then I'd still prefer a colour coded setup
I don't think it will knock your future value either. If the rest of the truck is what someone is looking for they probably wouldn't mind spending the time to switch to the colour combo of their choosing. 2007 - Stornoway Grey 90 XS SW - Gone 2002 - Black Discovery II - Gone 2014 - Montalcino Red 110 XS SW |

As mentioned for those looking for a 'standard' truck you will IMO appeal to a larger market if knocking it on or trading it in at a later date perhaps? Changing the colour of anything exterior is obviously a very personal touch.
If it's a 'keeper' the question and poll are both really immaterial. Nevertheless I have the same year, model and colour as you and my arches are still Stornoway so no surprises where my vote went.....same as the other three who voted. Don't keep your truck for the next guy, do what you want with it.

I don't do things to them for the future owner or for resale, I just like tinkering and improving.
I love to take things apart, fix them up, put a lot of care and attention to making it look better and reassembling. I guess I'm just a meddler! 2016 D4 HSE 1998 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF 1982 Series 3 SWB Petrol |

Just plasti-dip them black, see how it looks for a few months then peel off again if you want and it protects your paint too Did mine complete in matt clear (santorini black underneath) but you can get whatever colour you want. I did my roof in gunmetal attempting to match the wheels... will have to peel it off and spray a slightly darker colour.

I've not read much about Plastidip, is it easy to use?
How easily is it chipped and peeled off? 2016 D4 HSE 1998 110 TUM HS FFR Hard Top XD WOLF 1982 Series 3 SWB Petrol |

So why ask the question in the OP? If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Joe you must have had shades (or beer goggles) on when you tried colour matching your paint to your wheels... Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |

Very easy to use, you just need the patience to apply it in minimum six very very thin coats with drying time in between. When its applied and gone "hard" it peels off very similarly to a vynl wrap. When you want to, and deliberately work back an edge you pull it off in one big sheet, but you can happily pressure wash it without any worries of taking it off accidentally.
I drove mine down quite a few completely overgrown lanes in the alps the other week and with the exception of a few sharp brambles its relatively unscathed compared to what it would've done to the paint. None of it penetrated the plastidip so the base paint is still untouched. The advantage is, you just spray another couple of coats over and its like new again. You don't mask up before spraying, you spray the whole car then peel off what you don't want. I found its best to take door and window seals off though, makes it easier peeling round windows etc. If you're just doing the arches though, just pop them off and do them on a work bench. Save having to peel the over spray off the wing. Go on youtube and search for dipyourcar.com for some how to videos with the very very American "Fonzi" (or just google plastidip UK to find UK suppliers). Its a quarter the price of getting anything vynl wrapped, especially as you can do it yourself, and its better suited to defenders as its put on just like a paint so you don't have to worry about the vynl film not sitting right round rivets etc. You don't need a compressor or a proper paint gun, you can buy a gun with an air pump that does the job very well from the dip suppliers in the UK. I swear by it now after my alps trip the other week. Sorry for the essay! Hope it helps |

Better than that, we were so desperate to get it done before our trip to the alps it was a click and hope job on an online shop Will spend some time finding a better colour match now I'm back. [/quote] |

Lucky it wasn't real paint!!
Is your satin black on the bonnet also plasti dip? If so, what colour? Looks very similar to this, which is what I'm hankering after...could use Orange plasti dip for the vents... Sorry to hijack the thread by the way... I don't sell plastidip I promise
Bonnet is the same as the rest of the car. Its six layers of clearcoat dip on top of the original paint which is santorini black. In order to make it gloss you have to spray a "glossifier" layer over the top which is essentially the plastidip equivalent of a lacquer, otherwise the standard dips are all a satin type finish, hence the finish on mine. The guys my brother ordered from will colour match and mix a colour for you for £50 so would be easy to get what you want if you can't get a standard colour to match (I plan on taking them up on that for my roof!) The first and foremost reason I did it was to protect the paint, but after the good experience I might start playing around with it a bit more. |
