Defender 2.2 Hayward & Scott exhaust - inconsistent soun
The exhaust has been on my 2012 defender for about 6 months and I've noticed that my engine sound is inconsistent. This Hayward & Scott exhaust has no boxes. I was expecting it to sound a bit louder all the time but it is not louder at all.

Most of the time, the exhaust note will be very standard.(like having a standard factory exhaust) and sometime, it will have a deeper sound (like performance exhaust)

I drive about an hour to work and it will get deeper and louder for about 15 minutes sometime in the journey, then back to sounding standard again.

Can anyone please help explain this change in exhaust note? Didn't happen when I had the factory exhaust on.

Just a wild guess as I am no expert on these things but could it be the DPF doing a regen cycle occasionally? Assuming Thai spec Defenders have the DPF and that it wasn't removed as part of the exhaust mod.

The deeper sound is the dpf working and then going off, the only way to get a nice sound is to de car/de DPF it but we are not aloud in the UK 😞

Thank you for your reply. So I can assume this is a regeneration cycle for the DPF? How often does it usually happen? My driving weather conditions: hot, sometime lots of traffic. But don't usually hear the sound when in traffic (mileage 11,000)

What does the regen suppose to sound like?
