When I am driving about 65 mph, a weird vibration starts that manifests itself in the gear levers visibly vibrating and the passenger seat doing a merry dance. Strangely, the steering wheel does not seem to vibrate much??? The vibration gets worse as I go faster, then stops when I drop below 65 or so.
If I put the car in neutral, the vibration is still there. And it remains if I go from 6th gear to 5th gear... I initially thought this must be an unbalanced wheel... but the accompanying noise (whirr/whirr/whirr) coming from the transmission bell housing makes me wonder if it that? Car is a new MY15 Defender with under 1000 miles! I am out of ideas? How about yours please! Cheers, Pete YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

If it wasn't so new I'd have said a UJ.

Unbalanced drive shaft?
I am going to get all 4 wheels balanced and see where this goes. They are the 5.5 X 16 inch steelies! So there should not be an issue there really... Not seen thus one before... hence the post... YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

I HATE the thought of bloody warranty work! In my experience, the average 20 year old JLR mechanic is as much use as a chocolate teapot! I would far sooner sort this myself rather than going down that path if it was avoidable... Not bothered in spending a few bucks myself sorting this! YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

UPDATE!
Problem was that ALL 4 steel wheels were WAY out of balance... 65 - 85g per corner! This is a new car, straight from the factory Anyway, all re-balanced and smooth as silk now! Thanks for the suggestions! Pete YOLO... You Only Live Once... |
