AYe, OOPs,

I was in New York a few weeks ago when they dropped the 4.5 ton cooler off a scyscraper, me and my dad were stood on the street corner about 20 feet from the crane watching the previous lift and only wandered off as they were prepping the one that kinda went wrong

This prefab bridge deck weighed 175T. Shocked
The houses underneath were no match for that. Luckily no victims, even very limited wounded I understand. Miracle.
Now, we know a lot first hand on such mobile and other cranes in our line of business. Putting such cranes on individual floating river size barges to then jointly lift and swing 175T loads is not just a matter a poor engineering, but in my opinion is outright criminal. There were problems with the ballasting tanks of these barges all day long, but as there was pressure to finish the job, these alarm bells were either not recognized or neglected.
Will be interesting to see what the juridical investigation will come up with as to findings. You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Shocking, and no doubt it will be discussed by the armchair experts for some weeks to come.

It is truly astonishing though that they are presently reporting that there was just one human casualty (a person taken to hospital with a hip injury) and one canine fatality (a pet dog in one of the houses).

you can see the rigging coming off on the RHS as the far crane rotatates....should of stopped the lift and lowered it fast. was always going to end in tears because the load was unstable and that tipped the barge.

i got a few lifts on this week out here in Tonsberg...onto a barge rather than off of it!

Does anyone remember the crane that tipped over when trying to lift a boat? They then brought in another crane to lift the first crane out only to be tipped over because some numpty had forgotten to untie the boat. Im pretty sure there a video somewhere.
