Depends if you want to start cutting the dash up and fitting spacer rings or just a set of speakers that go straight in?
Half the battle is noise reduction of other parts of the defender so a good sound deadoning kit can work wonders and provide other benefits such as insulation so stays cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. 4inch speakers will fit without any cutting or spacers if you make sure the mounting depth of the speaker will fit. any bigger and your'e into cutting the dash and/or spacer rings... |

I have got enough dynamat to do the back of my HT and i will do the front at a later date.
I am not too bothered about cutting the dash as the 90 is a keeper!! How can you tell what spacer rings you require? I have had a look and it doesn't seem to strait forward. Thanks - Ben |

you might have to make your own spacer rings unless you can find some on the internet.
measure mounting depth of your required speaker, measure available depth where speaker is to be installed, make spacer ring the correct thickness so the speaker magnet doesnt foul anything, same with cutting the dash for the extra diameter of whatever speakers you are fitting. Actually securing things to the dash, you just need to replicate what holds the origional speaker in just a bit wider... |

As Jim say's above, 13cm is largest with cutting but no spacers required.
Or 10cm an easy straight swap over. Bigger is obviously better but there isn't major gains to be had. |

I used a narrow blade on my Fein cutter. A dremmel would probably be easier, but I didn't have it to hand. Remember measure twice cut once !!!! I positioned the speaker housing first over the empty hole, and held in place with mole grips to mark out. It is tight, but do able
