ive always found the td5 to be quite flat low down as standard

Cheers I'll try unplugging it and see. Am just a bit surprised how flat it is low down, certainly thought it would go better.

What did you come from before?
I found the same when moving from 300tdi to TD5. Yes the TD5 has the clout up top, but low down, in standard trim, it's take a bit to wind up. You can also test the maf with a multimeter if you dont have diag. |

Evening taazzukcb, previously I had a 2.4 td Hilux and that definitely has more go low down, maybe its the MAF not telling the ecu what it needs to hear ? Is there a set voltage reading you should have from the MAF ?
I am slowly working through things it's got top notch fuel in, new fuel filter, new oil and filters and new air filter, air intake isn't clogged in any way and I am running empty as well. (not loaded with stuff in the back or towing) Cheers Chris. |

Looking down the plug at the pins, check Pin 3 Voltage when at idle, should be (I think) 2V or there abouts.

sometimes cleaning the maf will help
remove and spray with brake cleaner , LET it dry , refit |

Well today I had some time off and enough time spare to do some jobs. I replaced the cam cover gasket that was leaking oil down the back of the block and also unplugged the MAF sensor as was suggested. Difference is night and day, goes well now and I would say it is a good 40% better than it is with the MAF plugged in. I plugged it in again and performance is shocking. I'll get a new one on order this week, anyone have a good supplier of genuine ones / Cheers Chris. |

Any of the indies/parts suppliers will have one. Just make sure it's a genuine/VDO one though.
Cheap ones are notorious for lasting minutes and also giving slightly out readings. Try all the usual, LRDirect, Island-4x4, Paddocks etc and just go with the cheapest. Some of them chuck in free Del over £50 and a genuine VDO will be somewhere from £60 upwards, so that's a bonus of sorts! |
