I've been looking at this.....
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Land-Rover-Serie...1a02009abb If there are any experts on here then it'd be great to have a bit of advice of what to look out for, do's and don'ts, what to ask etc. I know what to look for in a Defender and I've had a couple of the first Defenders - or Ninety's from 84 onwards but not as early as this. |

Thanks,
I'm after one for just a bit of fun really, not so much as an investment, as long as it doesn't end up being a total money pit! I had a couple of nice pickups in the past, one was a barn find that needed a fair bit of mechanical and chassis work, the other was pretty good other than it needed tidying and cosmetics, something in-between would be great. I like the idea of the flexibility of a soft/hard top and a pickup. |

A late reply I know (sorry) but also look out for it jumping out of gear, as S3 gearboxes are prone to it.

Look for everything you would look for on a defender and beware of the bitsa-rovers...... You never know what your going to get!
As mentioned above rot- crossmember, outriggers and front dumbirons- I helped @Rallysteve on here rebuild his S3 a few years ago- it had rot everywhere! He did a perkins prima conversion on his which was superb, difficult to find one now though. The diesels are very slow and rattly, the petrol are slightly less slow and slightly less rattly. You can get tdi converted ones for sensible money now too! Hope thats helps slightly! Chris |

Thanks for the replies, it's kind of gone on the back burner now as SWMBO has just pointed out I've got a few jobs around the house to do
But I'm sure if something comes up I might get time to slope out and take a look... |
