35" tyre pics
Has anyone fitted 35" or 315/75/16 tyres to sawtooth alloys?

I thought the biggest tyre you could get on a sawtooth was a 285x75x16 (assuming it's a genuine 7x16 wheel)?

Without spaces or a further offset wheel you'd lose all steering lock.

I ran 305\70\16 s (effecitivley 33inch) on 16x8 mach 5 without issues.

I believe some of the aftermarket guys do a 16x8 but you'd still need a wider offset unless you're into your 10 point turns Smile

I have just recently swapped over to exactly the same setup thanks to Camelman's historical advice. Thumbs Up

Really looking for the height of 35's.

Mind you the sawtooths might be out as the only 16" I can find are 7" wide. Only the 18" wheels are 8" wide...

quite a few aftermarket alloys are 16x8, the twisteds I run are 16x8 with ET0 (i.e. 33mm further out per wheel).

Have you looked at 15inch wheel options? I believe there are more 35inch tyres at that size.

Are you after the 35's for the higher gearing or more ground clearance?

IT's definitely worth having a look at pics of some first as some of them actually 'look' quite narrow in relation to their height/

I know there is lots of choice regarding tyres. I had originally considered 35's fitted onto modulars but recently I've been contemplating anthracite sawtooths. But they would need to be at least 8" wide for 35/12.5 tyres.

I'm sure I read somewhere (and cant find it now) that even 285's were not recommended for 7" rims. I know a lot of folks do, but wondered if there is any specific manufacturer advice on this..?

According to ETRTO (European Tyre & Rim Technical Organisation - who's standards all tyre and rim manufacturers work to) they state the minimum rim width for a 285 section tyre is 7.5J. And max rim width is 9J. So no, 285's should not be fitted to std LR 16" 7J rims.
However that doesn't stop anyone, so queue replies of "i've got them fitted and they are fine" etc etc.

Thanks for that. I had a feeling it was but I've had people elsewhere saying 8" was fine which I felt was too small..
