Not very good at describing noises but i'll have a go....
I once had a Ford that was notorious for it's pinking....the noise had me convinced that my cam chain tensioner was knackered.....it was a 'high frequency metallic' knocking sound....normally, I believe caused by pre-ignition where the fuel ignites before it's supposed to opposing the engine mechanics. (Fuel ignition occurs before the piston reaches TDC trying to force it against it's stroke). The situation is the same, as is the noise when you turn off the ignition and the engine runs on! Sure someone else can describe it better or correct me if I am off the mark. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Don't know how old your 90 is. But I have had a funny engine problem with mine. I took it in and landrover have reprogrammed it. It is running very well now. I believe that the factory have installed the wrong ecu software.
