Ford Clutch
Hello all,

Given that the general consensus is that the OEM AP clutch for the 2.2 Puma is as good as it gets, before I buy one, is it the same as the Ford Transit clutch as below, or a more heavy duty part?

At least £100+VAT difference. That's some nice theft proof bonnet hinges to you and me Thumbs Up

Any advice appreciated. Happy to pay for the correct item, always, but not if the same item (under a different brand) is a third of the price... Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

All my research has led me to believe that the ford, single mass flywheel clutch kit and concentric slave are identical to what we have fitted. However I haven't yet confirmed this enough to advise or even buy one my self. Its not unlikely that the ford happily runs one of the early puma clutches and so in affect you may end up fitting another pants clutch rather than the upgraded version. Hopefuly someone can put us straight as mines juddering a fair bit now

Thanks Bandit. Agreed, if anyone would know it would be mighty useful for all 2.2 drivers out there. I might take a punt and contact Ford direct. Perhaps also a Ford fanzine. Will let you know what I hear back. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

I used a ford vac pump on a friends defender purely as fitted were the only people stocking it for collection that same day and he needed the car. And although they are the same product the guy on the phone gave me a spiel about not having a the new parts warranty and so on as it isn't a ford vehicle

Talking of clutches.....

Anyone know what 'upgraded' clutch is being fitted on the bowler and AB models with increased power?

I presume it's upgraded.?

Ask one of the tuners bud the product is still new and I cant remember who, but someone is nagging the supplier to learn what's different.

150bhp Ford Ranger clutch in my 2015 Ranger is different part number to my 2015 Defender so Id suspect LR are using that for the AB cars.

I Have both parts on order and should be able to confirm soon, but in the mean time I know the gearboxes fit eachother so I strongly suspect this will be the case.

Only comment after installation; a bit heavier and "clonk" sound disappeared. But no long-term experience so far.

It would be interesting to find out, if that clutch assembly really was used. I tried but there was not enough space.. that Sachs HD assembly must be thicker than original used in Defender.

Do not have pictures to compare, but it took hours to try...

on a similar subject the clutch release bearing is actualy a ford transit part in a landrover box part no 1749121 from your ford dealer Laughing Laughing

The ford clutch would be for a dmf as fitted to transit , even for the solid conversion for the transit you need the clutch for a solid flywheel as a dmf clutch kit will not fit
