You will love it.
In 1998 I drove my then new Discovery V8 auto, unmodified and on standard road tyres to the top of Fuenta De and across the top of the Picos Mountains to Sotres. Fantastic time. Stayed at the Hotel del Osso (Hotel of the Bear) on the road from Potes at Cosgaya. Fantastic. Would love to do it again. Oh and you must drink the local cider! Cheers Don. |

Yes, Hotel del Osso is great, first stayed there in 1992, last time about 7 years ago. I hope its still going strong.

Looking to cross the pyrenees near Lourdes.
Am I dreaming to think we might find somewhere near the road safe, quiet and ok for a quick tent / sleep over / Bbq? |

You will love it, we spent 10 days touring North East Spain in June and had a fantastic time. Are you taking the ferry to Santander / Bilbao? We didn't see a UK number plate after leaving the ferry port until we returned for departure. Locals were very accommodating and the standard of driving was far better than I experience in West Yorkshire. We didn't take the Defender and we're restricted to Tarmac roads (as our car only had 50mm ground clearance) but the mountains passes and views were sublime. Will defiantly be back in the Defender. Have a good holiday.
