QT swivel recovery point question
I have been reading the various threads about fitting a recovery point to the rear crossmember and thus far have concluded that a back-plate is a must!

I am interested in the QT Swivel and Shackle:

...and assume that the squarish bit towards the bottom of this picture is a back plate which can be fitted to the inside of the crossmember. Can anyone confirm this is the case?

Secondly - I have a 2013 Puma with captive nuts on the crossmember. Does anyone have experience of fitting one of these to a similar crossmember and if so, was it done with the parts included or do I need new bolts etc?

Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Phil

Hi Phil,
i do also plan to buy that Qt-Swivel and shackle Very Happy
Yes, a back plate is a must!
I will use 8.8 screws or better 10.9 one`s.
But i must say, i haven`t had a look behind the crossmenber...
I think captive nuts should be fine.
But Keep in mind, that the recovery shouldn`t be exagerated/to tough - some People detroy their crossmenber Wink
Cheers Philip

The Puma crossmember (and I think TD5 and Wolf as well) has nutserts for the DIN four bolt mounting and I would recommend using the reinforcing plate used when fitting a NATO pintle to the crossmember. These come up on ebay regularly.

You certainly won't be able to bolt through the crossmember and use a plate behind on a 110 since the fuel tank is in the way.

How easy is fitting a back plate to the cross member, without dropping the tank to gain access. You also need to have enough room for plate, nuts, and overhang of bolts. Would also have thought that you would need to thread long bolts into the existing crossmember threads, and through to other side, then hang plate and use nuts, if not the only other option I can think of is to drill threads out of captive nuts.

I went for the 2" receiver as it gets it's strength from braces that go to the chassis, and the threads in the bottom of the crossmember, as well as the others.

I did consider the 2" receiver but don't have a need for any accessory (if that's the right word) other than a recovery eye/shackle. When the receiver insert I'd want (without the receiver to mount it into) is the same price as the whole assembly from QT, it's a bit of a no-brainer.

If I did need a tow bar as well as a recovery point, I would defo go for the receiver as it is the smartest set-up by far... Phil

Hi Phil & Philip,

Have either of you now fitted the QT swivel eye? If so, how have you installed the backing plate?

Thanks,
Chris
