Hi all,
Just picked up my Defender 90 last weekend after looking for a good length of time and lurking here for even longer. Owned a couple of Land Rovers over the years but never a defender. Anyway, this is Lani (named by my daughter), she seems in pretty good condition, solid chassis and engine but needs some tlc in the interior, lots planned on that front and a few bits on the outside starting with an ORE wheel carrier. First job though was adding some security, I’ll be doing more also on that front.

Tip tips when installing the ORE wheel carrier:
1 : a second pair of hands is going to be needed to help mount the arm, while bolts are fitted. 2 : park with the back overhanging the lawn; if you drop something you won't damage the coating. 3 : put a tarpaulin down, if you drop a fixing, nut or washer you won't lose it in the grass! Once everything is ajdusted, tight and the wheel is mounted, take for a short test drive and recheck all the fittings, readjust if needed and enjoy your new ORE wheel carrier Zaid-M

Quick question… My carrier arrived today, started looking at it and while ORE say it’s compatible with NAS style rear step/tow bar I can’t see any way of mounting it with the NAS step in situ, am I being daft? |

Did you remove the NAS step to fit the wheel carrier?
And of of interest what hinges are those? Thanks! |

No it remained in place the hinges are made by Optimill. Amazing products. 2015 HT XS 90

Thanks, I just can’t see how to get the bottom two long bolts through the cross member with the NAS steps in place
The optimal hinges are the older style I guess, the newer ones have internal screw heads and apparently need trimmed to fit with the carrier. I asked optimal if they were going to offer one pre trimmed but got no response in over a week  |

Chris from Ore makes shims to bring the wheel carrier away from the body because of the new style Optimill hinges.
Both companies are great to deal with and have excellent customer services but they will be busy with shows and holidays at this time of year. 2015 HT XS 90 2008 SVX 90 2000 XS TD5 90 |

ORE have been excellent, they called me regarding the delivery delay, not just an email but actually called me, I thought that was pretty awesome
Interesting info about the shims, thanks! I'm surprised to hear this as the ORE product pager states - Does it work with Optimil Hinges? – Our wheel carrier was designed to work with all well-known hinges on the market at that time. Since then Optimill has released a security hinge that sits much prouder on the body so our wheel carrier won’t fit. Sadly we cannot modify the top bracket of our carrier or the bearing housing for a number of structural/design reasons. Some customers asked about a packer plate but then that pushes the wheel away from the door as well as create a number of other geometry issues not to mention looking terrible sitting that far away from the door!
