LEG SPACE !!!
Hi All
Has anybody removed the bulk head behind the front seats( defender 90)to give some more leg room if so was it worth it and did you have to replace steering wheel as well for a smaller one?

I'm in the same predicament, don't particularly want to remove it, but think I'm going to have to. Although think I'd opt for the mid conversion bar that they do.

I have the Mud bulk head removal bar (Mid Height) paired with some Mud seat rails, I fit the seat rails in every Defender i have but the previous owner of my 90 fitted the bulk head removal bar and to be honest I never would of bothered as it seemed expensive and pointless but now I've sat in one with it done i think its one of the best things you can do for comfort!. It makes a huge difference, I'm about 6 ft 4 and with this setup, i still don't have my seat all the way back, probably still another 3 inches to go back before hitting the bulk head.

Did the MUD removal bar when i bought the Landy and makes a huge difference. One of best mods, one can do. Steering is another mod that makes a big difference but until know I did not do this mod so I cannot judge Smile

Don't think the risers alone will be of any benefit as they are designed to raise the seat rails to move the seat further rearwards. The removal of the bulkhead I believe facilitates this as the reclined back of the seat will go beyond where your current bulkhead is with the bar fitted in lieu of the bulkhead.. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Move the handbrake and you can open your legs wide, now for the salacious comments.

There is a thread on here that explains how, I used it and the new handbrake position should have been standard years ago.

I second the relocation of the hand brake Thumbs Up

i purchased a range rover hand brake and fitted so that is sits at the side of the cubby box,

i also have the mud risers and bulk head removal system. Very Happy

just done 2100miles over 9 days through Pyrenees and found it all very comfortable Thumbs Up

YEP , Did this mod when first purchased the 90 with the mud bar , I'm 6;2"and it made a massive difference with standard seat rails and steering wheel. Cut out old bulkhead with grinder took a couple of hours just make sure you cover interior up aluminium fillings get everywhere.. cheers daz ..

Hi Bunnyman,

I'm 6' 4" & could happily drive my standard spec. 300tdi 90 CSW (with bulkhead + dog guard) without any problems.
The back rest hit the bulkhead when the seat was set as far back as possible, so removing the dog guard didn't make any difference to me.
It's the Puma dash layout that really kills the available legroom.
Even with the seat set fully back on a standard 110 SW (so no bulkhead) there was nowhere near enough legroom for me.
I had two pairs of Mud Seat Rails delivered direct to the Dealer, for fitting prior to collection, and they made all the difference in the world.
In fact, I do not use anywhere near the maximum available seat adjustment when driving, or seated as a passenger.
Although the ability to be able to push the seat even further back is a great option for more comfortable rest stops.
As others have said, including Mud UK's own website, you only gain a little bit of legroom by fitting the seat rails alone.
The only other modification I've made is the fitment of Mud UK's Flexible Grab Handles, in order to gain a bit of extra width.
I've not felt the need to change the standard steering wheel, as it does not hinder me.
However, it might be beneficial if you have a bit of a belly!! Laughing
