My S3 2.25 petrol lightweight needs its head and valves skimmed .
I'm looking for anyone who's had there's done and who they recommend . Symptoms : runs well but sputters on tickover . PCPs are sky high so unburnt fuel . Compression test shows low on cylinder 2 so I need the head done and valves . Cheers keith |

Head is not prepped for unleaded . It's a keeper this one so might as well get it done and it will run like a sweety . My last 2.25 petrol gave me 28mpg . Need some one close to me as I don't want to post it away or P/ex

This is the exhaust valve from my old Series Two - I was told when I bought it that it had been converted to unleaded........

The HC 2286 3MB lump in my 86" gives me about 28-32mpg depending on how flamboyantly I drive it. I think the 5MB engines are generally marginally less economical.
That valve isn't pretty! |

Ten years ago I bought a two and a quarter gas flowed head from Turner Engineering, could not fault it. I sold the Land Rover to a friend who still has it and it has not missed a beat. You have to send your old head back to Turners on an excgange basis but they arrange the pick up and it does not cost you to send it back. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

I used these guys on my old series 3 must be about 15 or so years ago now, very good still going strong.
http://www.automotivecomp.com/index.html I had the stage 2 powerplus head and SU carb kit, made the S3 alot more fun to drive. |

How on earth did you get 28mpg out of that? On my old one with much taller diff ratios I was struggling to get 16mpg driven like a saint!
To answer your question I used AutomotiveComp too - with their high performance head with a higher compression engine and an Su Carb. It went very well (a little too well for the rest of the vehicle... ), but economy was never its strong point! |

Cox&Turner are about the only ones I would use!
When it come to series engines, these guys know their stuff. I'm sure you could go cheaper else where? But you do really get what you pay for. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90" Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered. |

Still haven't done the head yet . I will wait till the winter when ' Berty ' is off the road . Runs fine except for the low compression on 1 cylinder and a bit of chuffing . It will be a Turner gas flow head that I use .
