Assuming it is a front diff, I am interested please. I am away at the moment but will pm in the week if that's OK. Thanks.

Fronts are standard 2-Pin, rears are 4-Pin.
The rear 4-Pin can be put in the front but need machining to fit. |

Do you ever come up to Hertfordshire/Bucks? I believe this would fit a TD5 110...

From what I have read, LR put 2 pin in the front and 4 pin in the rear, then there was a change of plan (2009/2010) and they started to put 4 pins in the front of 110/130s but kept putting 2 pins in 90s.
I'm not sure what's in mine,, but defo a 4 pin came out of the rear on Saturday. |

Many other threads on this.
90 front - Rover pattern 2 gear diff, all models. 110 front - Rover pattern 2 gear to sometime in 2010, then 4 gear Rover. 90 rear - Rover 2 gear all models 110 rear - P38 4 gear all models 130 is the same as 110. It's a Rover pattern 4 gear diff I'm after if the price is right. |

well my MY11 that I picked up in late Oct 2010 has a 2 pin at the front
newhue - if you are right it kind of confirms what I thought. mine was an extra one they built from the spares bin. |

To be clear as someone on here corrected me. Two pin is actually one, and what we are calling 4 pin is actually two. I also have a 2 pin (known as 4) front centre from a 2010 110 a mate gave me. Maybe it's an OS spec.
Down here some bloke in a Puma ran off the road because his 1 pin front diff seized. There was a period where the dam pin was coming loose and seizing the diffs. There was more than one instance I believe. I am amazed how this could be, the ramifications for JLR I would have thought should have sparked a recall for an immediate check. I guess no one was seriously injured so no hurry, just maybe during standard servicing checks were done for its placement. You can check what you have using a torch through the fill hole. Are you sure you don't have a two pin. If you think yours was made of spares, how do you think I feel, mine has build date April 1. And when it went pear shaped on day 2 of ownership I was somewhat numb and in denial. My Defender and travels |

yes if you know what to look for you can determine the type via the oil filler. blackwolf kindly sorted the info out for me to determine which is which....I'll go see if I can find the link. check out page 2 - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic25075-15.html |

^^^ Which is precisely why I always refer to them as "2 gear" and "4 gear.
My original 2 gear front diff (2007 110) failed exactly ad you describe. Interesting to say the least since it becomes virtually impossible to steer. Fortunately it was a very wet day so some scrub was achievable. |
