I am considering travelling down the same path, other considerations that may have to be taken into account is how would it affect your remap (if you've got one)? A quick search reveals the following thread on the subject already...
Started by you? Did you not get a satisfactory answer first time round? http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic3141.h...ntercooler If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

no not really i know robofarmer has a allisprt one i was wondering if any body else has a different suppliers fitted and whether its benifited them
currently i have bas remap itg filter (but put standard one back in now ) full stainless exhaust only a resinator in the centre pipe and the new egr blank(14mm atm ) but asd i said before i ahve a big slab of metal in the front (winch and bumper) im pretty sure a allisport one will fit but the price he gave me today nearly mad me cry !! and that was without pipes so im interested about any other manufactures that people have fitted ? cheers steve 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |

You will need to speak to Pete as with a BAS remap you need to know if a larger intercooler will actually benefit you in any way. According to him from a historical post (see below) with an Autologic remap there are no gains to be had. You may be wasting your money. I need to do more research to see if I with an Autologic remap the information is correct. I would not be best chuffed paying in the region of £400 for an intercooler with no benefits to be had.

appretiate that k9 but as i said i do have a twin motor 8374 on th front tucked behind 12mm of steer and you can only see about 1/3 of the intercooler
therefore letting hardly any air threw it pete said the same to me basically but he also did agree about the winch that blocks so much of it ? and surely a bigger intercooler just makes things run even colder and colder is better ? cheers steve 2015 2.2 tdci hardtop xs 3.2 conversion DONE 238bhp and 707nm torque and thats just the start ;-P hybrid turbo in build -done ready to fit ashcroft atb in transfer box 6 speed auto in build |

I know what you're saying Big Steve about larger area more cooling, and I am unsure of intercooler physical sizes.
I think the principle of a replacement intercooler is not the fact that it is necessarily physically larger in cross-sectional area in the airflow (3 or 4 times usually) but the fact that the matrix itself has a 3 or 4 times more volume giving a much more efficient cooling. To achieve this there is more matrix in the same or similar size of intercooler the matrix can also be 'sandwiched' in certain types to keep the size similar to the original. Basically if you mask a certain area of your intercooler off, the same cross sectional area will still be masked on the replacement intercooler. Hope this makes sense. I know what I myself was trying to get across. Sure someone with the true facts will pop along to enlighten us! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! This is RoboFarmers personal PA, (currently having a beer together)
He has a BAS Remap, 14mm blanking plate and just installed an Alisport Intercooler. There are benefits from the blanking plate alone from which you'll see on the EGR thread. If you go an add an intercooler aswell this will compliment the whole setup even further. I have noticed massive increase in MPG and performance after installing the intercooler on Sunday. Figures to be quoted. I can't reccommend fitting one enough, colder air can only be good for the engine and compliment the setup as a whole. Thanks Mr Woo,
Maybe i'll move the intercooler purchase off of the rear burner and give it more consideration again! Had already nearly spent the money on a decat pipe or whole exhaust system. So many 'needs' so little dosh! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Try 'Alive Tuning' one of the site's sponsors. His site member price seems quite competetive on the intercooler front. They do exhausts as well. If you fit an aftermarket/bigger intercooler, does this not affect the warranty?

Hey Steve so apart from the lift cage and big wheels what else you done I think you will agree that there are many ways to mod a defender and that's one of the many things that make them so
