The camp site in the Tabernas where we stayed for four days.
Click image to enlarge It got to 45 and wass so hot at one point that the Mantec wheel carrier locked up and I had to pour cold water over the hinges so I could open the door. All above from the first four days. Will follow up some more later in the week. Boy Admin note: this post has had its images recovered from a money grabbing photo hosting site and reinstated |

All in all it ran fine. I did have a problem with the engine (tune in) missing, coughing and spluttering but I think I sussed that as I was using Millers and once I stopped putting it in the problem did not happen again (something to be noted). MPG was around 24-25 but after a long motorway drive I managed to get 27 once. We did the Bilbao to Tabernas in one hit and took 11.5 hrs. On the third day we drove to a unsurfaced road on the Western mountains I know only to find it had been tarmac’ed much to my disappointment (still single track though). I was gutted as it was a great drive of about 15kms of great views. In the afternoon I found an even better one on the Eastern side (Most of the photos) that was 21 kms. Very dusty especially once you descend from the 4000ft crest into the bowl of Tabernas. The track ended in a dry river bed and was one of the best drives I have found in Spain in spite of the heat.

That would have been me, I broke (among other things) my back & neck about ten years ago so I am on a sticky wicket to start with. I did say to Cy my wife on the way down "I think I am getting too old for this" so maybe it will be the last year I go down that far (or will it????).

Great pictures...Stirs the resting adventurous spirit in me! Don't do camping very well though either! Did the aircon do it's job? Good tip about Millers, I too use it but have not had any problems to-date!
If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I may have overdone the Millers and that is why.
As for the Aircon, well yes it did keep up to about 35 but over that it very much struggled. Remembering that it is a 110 and has a large area. Having tinted windows would have helped and if it was a DCPU or a 90 would have made it much more effective. That all said we are quite happy to experience the heat and dust with the windows down and we have all survived when we used to do it in 2.5na and tdi. On the motorways every now and then we had a spell with the aircon on which was nice. Boy |
