Numberplate Light Plinth
What is the point of it? Is it just a spacer? Given that the light only needs to be spaced out the thickness of a numberplate and the 'lens' of the light is already spaced proud of the plate by the light base itself, what is wrong with mounting the light directly to the body?

I am swapping to an LED numberplate light for info

I can't really think of a reason for it to be there in the UK.

Perhaps in some countries where they don't have the large square plates and use small rectangular ones (US, Japan for example) it's needed to throw the light further down the body. Certainly in the UK i don't see any reason you couldn't lose the spacer.

Interesting question, often wondered why it sticks out so far. James

I took my spacer off years ago and it still all works fine and the plate is still lit up. Ray

When I fitted an LED version the cable exit was in a different place to the hole in the body.
I turned the plinth around; drilled a new hole to line up with the LED and then the cable had a nice void to realign with the body... so came in useful in the end. Exclamation
