If you've got stripes across the whole screen it sounds like one single element of the two has thrown it's hand in as the two elements are alternative. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!
Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

I have heated screen on my Focus and Mondeo and on Discovery2. It is superb, and on 130 it will be also in future.
Sometimes some part of the heating elements is gone. A think, it is a mechanical problem. It can be visible when the glass is chipped by a stone or nearly invisible, when the elements just loose connection on one end. The second is probably because repeated thermal cycles of the glass during normal use - it just brake the connection on the end. Here in Czech republic I have a bad experience with stones "shooted" by another cars on the road during winter. I had to replace the front screen after aprox. 3 years on my car. So for me so additional insurance is very good way, how to solve it. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "BlufĂnek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo |

Well, just disconnected and tested with a multimeter.
Earth connector, no resistance to earth - Great. Positive (mine is only the two tab screen) - 13.5v (engine running) Resistance across disconnected screen 16 Ohms (so I guess the screen is dead as should be about 0.5 ohm I think on the theory that it should draw 20+ amps and 12V/24A=.5 ohms) Time to find another screen unfortunately. Well, I am disproportionately pleased with my new windscreen (insurance jobby). I bought a genuine LR seal and the fitter didn't take much persuasion to use it yet maintain the guarantee I can't get used to not having stripes...... My grinning may subside as it's the MOT tomorrow (Last minute or what ) |
