Odd Connector or Locating Clip?
I say connector but it looks more like sort sort of female locating clip:

It's bound onto the outer conduit that connects to the MAF sensor.

Anyone know what it is and if it's in the right place?

looks like a blank socket , maybe for if plug isn't used it can be clipped in to this to save wire dangling

aircon plug maybe , as some have aircon some don't

Well that sounds plausible, I have aircon. Can someone without check to see what they have here?

have a look at the plug on the a/c pump (wires for electric clutch) , see if it looks the same shape
