Never been so scared in my life.
this morning after an enjoyably walk with my two labs bailey & barney, they were having their usual playfight in the garden. All of a sudden the older one bailey started screaming, he had his jaw stuck in the pups collar trapping his tongue and jaw, the collar was behind his bottom k9 teeth. he was panicking and trying to free himself but couldn't. the pup was being choked to death! poor little mite was fighting for his life but couldn't do anything for the big one trying to free himself. I tried but there was no way of freeing him it was so tight. the pup blacked out and was being dragged around by the big one, i rushed into house and picked up all the kitchen knives to try and cut the collar. just as i went to hold the dogs, the collar broke free. the little one spluttered back into life after a few seconds and both dogs (and me) were left shaking and in shock! they are both asleep on sofa now and the collars are in the bin!!! i feel like an emotional wreck! Nightmare mate!! Turns out luck was on your side with being home to hear them and save them! Nice work on the quick thinking and fast reaction!
My boy doesn't wear a collar at all anymore just his harness when we're out walking as he play fights whilst he out. Strong people are harder to kill and generally more useful! |

Not a good way to start the day...
Happy for you it had the ending it did, it could have been so different and doesn't bear thinking about... Benson Staffy never wears a collar indoors, in fact it comes off at the gate when his walkies is over... But I will be carrying a knife when out with him in future... Rog... The GREEN One... Glad all ended well for you mate, we have a black lab and my wife always takes him to collect one of my girls from school, a couple of weeks ago he had a fit outside of the school gate, anyway my wife called me in desperate panic and I rushed 20 miles to the vets from work and when I arrived there, he was right as rain, and moaning for his tea which he knew had passed Anyway he has had a blood test and all is fine, though we are keeping an eye on him, he is part of the family and if anything happened to him it would be terrible, so I know how you must have felt, glad they are both ok now.

Glad there was a happy ending.
Had the same thing happen many years ago, kitchen knife saved the day!. The little darlings are always getting into trouble, nature of the beast and that's why we love so much. Never a dull moment with dogs in the household. |

What a horrible experience. Glad both dogs are OK. You just never can plan for those sort of situations. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

Glad they are ok now. My day started with a dash to the vet as my Lab bitch has suddenly gone down with pyometra, they plan to open her up this afternoon.... Steve.
