Should this be connected?
Whilst the car was up on a ramp the other day, I noticed this bracket mounted on the crossmember underneath the gearbox. There is a hole in it and also a threaded hole in the gearbox above it.
There is about 25mm between the top of the bracket and the bottom of the gearbox and the holes are about half their width out of line.
Does anybody know if there should be something there?

so what is it for? I wondered on mine too. It looks like something should be there but it's not lined up properly.

I remember at one point some had a small rubber bush in there but I think it was deleted as it was transferring too many vibrations from the drive chain into the chassis.

Think it was deleted very very early on though I have never seen one fitted. Running Restoration Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/post323197.html#323197

Suppose you could always fit a flood light there to assist with roadside repairs?!

This has to be up in the rankings alongside "what's the best way / place / product to rustproof my Defender" , Caterham's endless waffle about real or imagined issues with his pride and joy and Zag's bazillion questions about Defender this and that's before he ever owned one [for a few months] Wink Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.
Current Defender: A non tarts hand-bagged Puma 110 XS USW.

[Insert something impressive here such as extensive list of previous Land Rovers or examples of your prestigeous and expensive items, trinkets, houses, bikes, vehicles etc]
