United Kingdom 1989 Defender 90 V8 Petrol ST Alpine White
Bearmach exhaust
So while getting my old ninety ready for the MOT I decided a new exhaust system was in order,

I had another V8 90 some years ago and fitted a Britpart SS full system made by Double S exhausts, I was never happy with it, the manifolds kept cracking and I could never get the fit right, and whilst it sounded ok it just wasn't a deep enough rummble for me and a bit "raspy" at high revs

I did a bit of searching and there is not a great deal of choice out there, spoke to a few bespoke builders who would build a system but not manifolds, plus this ment getting the ninety to them & considerable cost

I settled on the Bearmach SS full system and ordered it back in Oct time, on first inspection I was pleased to find that the tail section from the silencer back was a fair bit bigger bore than the Britpart one and that may just give me the deeper sound I was after but I also noticed that the stickers on each section said it was made buy Double S exhausts, Rolling Eyes

Fast forward to me fitting it two weeks ago!
The o/s manifold fitted to the head perfectly, on to the n/s! 3 of the branches lined up and fitted the head perfectly but 1 was leaning away & twisted from the exhaust port by around half an inch!
With a bit of heat and persuasion I managed to get it in line with the other 3 and refit, at this point I noticed it was hard up against the chassis rail! a little more heat and persuasion and that was sorted too!

On to the "Y" section which fitted ok, then the one and only silencer, when fitted this was hard up against the gearbox mount!
Que more heat and grunting!

The tail section fitted on ok but the exit is pointing slightly upwards which every time I look at it annoys me! (OCD Whistle )
On start up I was expecting (hoping) for a deep rummble, I was even a little worried it might me "too" loud

I needn't have worried! On tick over I reckon it is quieter than the stock system I took of! Big Cry
Through the rev range it does sound a little "deeper" but seems to have lost the V8 burble!
It reminds me of my dad's old Triumph Stag if any one can relate to that?
Maybe it will improve over time!?

Before any heating & adjustment I did call the supplier who said nothing they could do as it was nearly 8 months since they supplied it & speak to Double 'S'
I didn't bother I remember getting brushed of by them last time I had problems

On the up side it has unleashed a few more horses! hills that I used to drop to 2nd she pulls up in 3rd easily now!

My system on the 90 is beyond tired, though it fits fine, I'm reluctant to buy another in case it doesn't fit.

I prefer to have a subtle v8 purr, than a gnarly chav rumble.
I'll avoid double s. Thumbs Up
