Think carefully about CarPlay etc. in my opinion it's really not there yet.
I'd always pick a decent unit which has USB, Bluetooth audio, hands free, 3.5aux in etc over CarPlay at the moment. I don't want to have to plug it in to use features, nor do I want to have to try and use Siri etc in the car. Maybe seeing you can use it somewhere first. I went for the parrot asteroid smart and love it, runs android so so upgrade able. Also means I can run tomtom etc and download apps from the store. http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic26531....oid+fitted Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |

Parrot Asteroid perhaps as David above? I have a single DIN Parrot and whilst people have had trouble with theirs mine has given me excellent service, and continues to do so. Could be possibly down to the fact I have never 'messed' with it faffing about with updates. 'If it ain't broke don't fix it' may have paid dividends in my case. Yeah I had the standard asteroid (single din) before my current smart, and it was a little temperamental. The new Smart is a huge step forward in user interface, responsiveness and reliability.
And at <Ł500 when you factor in the cost of the full TomTom maps I think it's a great price too. And infinitely upgradeable as it uses android, USB, Bluetooth etc so very standard technologies which are near universal. You can run almost anything on it. Mine just needs the odd occasional 'reset' but I can live with it. It is not broken enough to warrant an upgrade and it dying on me based on others experience. Several other well known makes use Parrot Technology and when they themselves bought out their own headunits I thought to give them a try. Would I buy again?.......Yes! As David said things have come on since then too.

Video gives a good idea of what it's like.
YouTube is a good place to look at CarPlay etc too if you want to know what that's like. Cheers, David Land Rovers of all shapes S3 onwards… Daily is a 110 V8. |
