Pull the bonnet and check all the fluid levels. Bit awkward to open the clutch reservoir-standard Defender thing this- but get the seller to open it for you. Lie underneath and check for any leaks. I had two engine oil filters that had very slight leaks. Follow the pipe work down from the reservoir for the power steering fluid just to make sure all is tight and there are no leaks. Mine leaked owing to a loose nut but I tightened it up and topped up the reservoir. No big deal. Make sure your handbook and all the other literature is in the vehicle. Start it up and turn it off. If there is a rattle from the clutch area as she is swithed off the clutch springs are rattling. Thie clutch will be changed under warranty. If there is a rattle when it is turned off depress the clutch pedal while turning it off. The rattle will not be heard. This will confirm the clutch needs changing. After that it is the usual cosmetics like elbow dents in wings etc. If you are happy strap you self in and join the "perennial grin on the face club". Odds are that you will get lost going home and only go home when you are getting low on cash!Sit back and enjoy, they are wonderful. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

Be warned!! Don't rely on the LR warranty. Times are hard and they don't like splashing the cash if they can help it. Take a good test drive and look for transmission freeplay (backlash) and gearbox synchromesh. If you can live with it fine, but if you can't, don't buy it!
