I have an alpine head unit fitted in the normal position, with a lead from the rear, through a hole in the dash, past the fusebox and out underneath the carpet (its a posh XS)
The ipod lead then heads into the bubby box where the ipod can be locked away. In the dash I have used the spare USB connector of the headunit to fit a usb input on the dash, handy for memory sticks and phones. Following the same route I have also taken the output for the rear speakers - 6x9s powered by an amp fitted under the rear seats, and the sub which has an inbuilt amp. In the front I enlarged the holes used for the standard speakers and with the help of some spacers have fitted 13cm speakers with a crossover unit placed into the void behind, powering the tweeters. All in all I am very pleased with my set up, I just need to replace the blown 6x9 and it will be complete! 2002 Defender 110 DC |

I've ordered some new tweeters (on there way now) which come with cross overs and am debating which sub woofer to buy - Ben, you say yours is active? which one did you go for? seems a few people favour the Alpine SWE-1000, how did you run your power, earth etc direct from the battery? Some details would be great help ... Thanks "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did..."

I went for the swd 1600 which was slightly more powerful ( bit of a basshead) and a 2 way amp for the 6x9's Currently wired straight from the battery with an inline fuse. I use one wire from the battery to the amp, then piggy back to the sub. Just make sure the wire is up to it. In the very near future I will be adding a fuse box in the rear of the truck and will be transferring the feeds to that to tidy up the inside of the truck. As for the earths, a lot of the bolts under the seats will provide a decent earth. 2002 Defender 110 DC |

Great thread, and thanks for the advice on the sub, looks like I might have to part with some cash! "Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the things you did..."

Has anyone removed the tweeters from a puma before? Still struggling to get access to behind the dash to get to them. Not sure to what extent I have to take the dash apart and indeed how! Ben thanks for your advice but I think your referring to a TD5 not a Puma?

They can be levered out from the top or you can pop the side air vents out and give them a push.
I used the plastic tool that comes with the brodit proclip stuff but anything skinny enough will do. |
